MIG welding of aluminium alloys
Welding International, 1991MIG welding is used as a highly efficient process for various types of metal. It involves creating an arc between an electrode, wire and the metal to be welded (parent metal) under the gaseous shield of an inert gas such as argon, thereby causing the wire to melt and transfer to the parent metal.

Abstract Plasma-metal inert gas (MIG) welding can be defined as a combination of plasma arc welding (PAW) and gas-metal arc welding (GMAW) within a single torch, where a filler wire is fed through the plasma nozzle orifice. This article describes the principles of operation and operating modes of plasma-MIG welding.

Numerical Simulation of MIG Weld Pool in Switchback Welding
Welding in the World, 2009The authors proposed a switchback welding method to make stable back beads in the first layer weld during one-side multi-layer welding. In the proposed welding method, a welding torch is moved backwards and forwards like a switchback. The torch motion is important in the control of the weld pool.
