Online Scheduling with Migration Cost

2012 IEEE 26th International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium Workshops & PhD Forum, 2012
In this paper, we consider a new variation of the classical online scheduling problem. In our model, an online scheduler is allowed to migrate the assigned jobs to different machines. Live migration is a powerful tool for load balancing. However, migration will incur additional cost in the destination machines.

Virtual machines pre-copy live migration cost modeling and prediction: a survey

open access: yesDistributed and Parallel Databases, 2021
Live migration is an essential feature in virtual infrastructure and cloud computing datacenters. Using live migration, virtual machines can be online migrated from a physical machine to another with negligible service interruption.

Network migration cost study

2010 14th Conference on Optical Network Design and Modeling (ONDM), 2010
In this paper a cost analysis case study of migrating services from an SDH network platform into a packet based transport network is presented. The Net Present Value (NPV) of the costs of actively migrating the services is compared with the NPV of the costs of operating the SDH platform for the regular duration of all remaining services. Different cost

Migration cost externality and interregional equilibrium

The Annals of Regional Science, 1994
"This paper will investigate the characteristics of population allocation between two regions in the presence of migration cost. It will also examine both populations and the non-migration range of the initial population in which migration does not occur, in social optimum and market equilibrium with central government intervention, to reveal ...

Energy and Migration Cost-Aware Dynamic Virtual Machine Consolidation in Heterogeneous Cloud Datacenters

IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, 2019
Energy efficiency has become one of the major concerns for today's cloud datacenters. Dynamic virtual machine (VM) consolidation is a promising approach for improving the resource utilization and energy efficiency of datacenters.

Computing and Communication Cost-Aware Service Migration Enabled by Transfer Reinforcement Learning for Dynamic Vehicular Edge Computing Networks

IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing
Due to the high mobility of vehicles, service migration is inevitable in vehicular edge computing (VEC) networks. Frequent service migrations incur prohibitive migration cost including the computing cost (e.g., increased computing delay) and ...
