Flyway‐scale GPS tracking reveals migratory routes and key stopover and non‐breeding locations of lesser yellowlegs

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2022
Many populations of long‐distance migrant shorebirds are declining rapidly. Since the 1970s, the lesser yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes) has experienced a pronounced reduction in abundance of ~63%. The potential causes of the species' decline are complex and

Attraction of migratory inanga (galaxias maculatus) and koaro (galaxias brevipinnis) juveniles to adult galaxiid odours [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The response of migratory galaxiid juveniles, inanga (Galaxias maculatus) and koaro (G. brevipinnis), to the odours of adult galaxiids was tested in a two-choice chamber apparatus. Both conspecific and heterospecific odours were tested. Inanga juveniles

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Use of Occupancy Models to Evaluate Expert Knowledge-based Species-Habitat Relationships

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2012
Expert knowledge-based species-habitat relationships are used extensively to guide conservation planning, particularly when data are scarce. Purported relationships describe the initial state of knowledge, but are rarely tested.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Migratory strategies across an ecological barrier: is the answer blowing in the wind?

open access: yesMovement Ecology
Background Ecological barriers can shape the movement strategies of migratory animals that navigate around or across them, creating migratory divides. Wind plays a large role in facilitating aerial migrations and can temporally or spatially change the ...

Species distribution models for a migratory bird based on citizen science and satellite tracking data

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2017
Species distribution models can provide critical baseline distribution information for the conservation of poorly understood species. Here, we compared the performance of band-tailed pigeon (Patagioenas fasciata) species distribution models created using

Higher growth variability and stronger responses to temperature changes in wild than hatchery‐reared sea trout (Salmo trutta L.)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2021
Each year, millions of hatchery‐reared sea‐run brown trout Salmo trutta L. (the sea trout) juveniles are released into the natural environment in the Atlantic region.
