Damage evolution in mild steel

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1988
Abstract Macroscopic attributes of damage resulting from development of microvoids in a cold-strained mild steel are examined. One of them is the relative density change, the evolution of which has been found experimentally in torsion and in a process close to uniaxial tension.

Borosilicate coatings on mild steel

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1992
Abstract Borosilicate glass coatings were obtained on mild steel substrates by the dip-coating sol-gel technique. Different coating solutions were used in fresh and aged conditions. The samples were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Nonhomogeneous Yielding of Steel Cylinders 1—Mild Steel

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1957
Abstract Experimental information on the mechanism of yield and the associated strains is presented for mild-steel cylinders (2:1 diameter ratio) overstrained by internal fluid pressure. A limited number of Lueders’ lines develop and propagate through the cylinder wall according to distinct patterns. The strains vary circumferentially in

Diethanolamine SCC of Mild Steel

CORROSION 1986, 1986
Abstract The stress corrosion cracking characteristics of mild steels in 20% diethanolamine solution with and without bisulfide and bicarbonate (acid gas) loadings were examined. Most evidence of SCC was found as temperature increased (up to 160°F)in solutions with low or no acid gas loading.

Cleavage fracture in mild steel

International Journal of Fracture Mechanics, 1968
Brittle fracture of steel structures has been a matter of considerable concern to both engineers and metallurgists for many years, it now being generally recognized that the cleavage mode of failure occupies a central position with respect to the problem.

Spall Study in Mild Steel

Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 1997
The influence of inertial, thermal, and rate-sensitive effects on the void growth at high strain rate in a thermal-viscoplastic solid is investigated by means of a theoretical model proposed in the present paper. Numerical analysis of the model suggests that inertial, thermal, and rate-sensitive effects are three major factors which greatly influence ...

Oxide Films on Mild Steel

Nature, 1965
IT is sometimes assumed that the oxide film formed on iron at room temperatures is uniform in thickness across a specimen, and that where several oxides exist together they are present as layers stacked neatly one above the other. In an electron microscope investigation of the oxidation of mild steel using oxide films stripped by the iodine/methanol ...
