Determinants and impact of adopting climate-smart brachiaria grass among dairy farmers in Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Evolving changes such as population growth, urbanisation and a growing middle-income class in Africa are redefining the agro-food systems. Population growth is expected to double the demand for milk and meat products in Africa by 2050.

A dsRNA Viral Transcriptional Regulator Evades Innate Immunity by Hijacking Host CoTranscription Factor DHX9

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies a new viral mechanism by a viral protein σ3 that functions as a vTR to suppress NF‐κB gene expression via its direct interaction with the host helicase DHX9. Through their interaction, σ3 not only impairs the initial recruitment of Pol II but also affects Pol II pause‐release and ultimately suppresses NF‐κB gene expression ...

Endocytic Control of Cell‐Autonomous and Non‐Cell‐Autonomous Functions of p53

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NUMB Ex3‐containing isoforms localize to the plasma membrane, where they recruit p53 through SNX9 and direct it to multivesicular bodies and exosomes. Exported p53 is taken up by neighboring cells and activates nuclear programs, revealing an intercellular, exosome‐based pathway that might help establish a tumor‐suppressive microenvironment.

Quantitative Proteomics and CRISPR/Cas9 Editing Reveal UPR‐Mediated Control of Immunoglobulin Homeostasis in Hybridomas

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BCR sequencing and subclone analysis correlated immunoglobulin (Ig) chain loss in dysfunctional hybridomas with disrupted monoclonal antibody homeostasis. Proteomics‐guided CRISPR/Cas9 editing revealed that the unfolded protein response (UPR) regulates aberrant Ig synthesis.

Conversion of Transplanted Mature Hepatocytes into Afp+ Reprogrammed Cells for Liver Regeneration After Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Donor‐derived tdTomato+ mature hepatocytes were FACS‐isolated and transplanted into Fah−/− host mice. During regeneration, these cells convert into proliferative, unipotent Afp+ rHeps. Their plasticity is governed by a PPARγ/AFP‐dependent metabolic switch, segregating into pro‐proliferative Afplow and pro‐survival Afphigh subpopulations.

The aim of this study was to determinate milk productivity, productive life span, and longevity of Bulgarian simental cows with different lactation. The data of milk production and duration of lifetime productivity for 312 cows, daughters of 14 bulls ...
