Dynamical effects of satellite accretion on the Milky Way

ΛCDM cosmology predicts that galaxies grow through the process of hierarchical structure formation. In the Milky Way (MW) galaxy, evidence of satellite accretion is present through observations of stellar streams in the outer halo, and chemo-kinematically distinct stellar populations in the inner regions. Recent surveys of the MW stars such as Gaia and

Dynamical processes in the disk of the Milky Way and Gaia perspective

2015
The dynamics of the disk of our Galaxy is shaped by a complex interplay of processes. For instance, the movement of stars is influenced by the spiral arms and the bar through mechanisms like resonant trapping, scattering and radial mixing. I will review some of these processes and how we model them using controlled simulations.
