The Three-phase Evolution of the Milky Way

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We illustrate the formation and evolution of the Milky Way over cosmic time, utilizing a sample of 10 million red giant stars with full chemodynamical information, including metallicities and α -abundances from low-resolution Gaia XP spectra.

The Vertical Displacement of the Milky Way Disk [PDF]

open access: yesFormation and Evolution of Galaxy Outskirts, Proceedings of the International Astronomical Union, IAU Symposium, Volume 321, pp. 13-15, 2017, 2017
An oscillating vertical displacement of the Milky Way, with a wavelength of about 8 kpc and and amplitude of about 100 pc (increasing with distance from the Galactic center) is observed towards the Galactic anticenter. These oscillations are thought to be the result of disk perturbations from dwarf satellites of the Milky Way.

Analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates by matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry: An update for 2021–2022

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, Volume 44, Issue 3, Page 213-453, May/June 2025.
Abstract The use of matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry for the analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates is a well‐established technique and this review is the 12th update of the original article published in 1999 and brings coverage of the literature to the end of 2022.

Global warming and obesity: External heat exposure as a modulator of energy balance

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2025.
Core body temperature regulation can significantly influence metabolic processes to maintain energy balance. For example, geographic and environmental factors (global warming) can affect obesity rates and can be tracked along latitudinal boundaries.

swPHoToNs: Toward trillion‐body‐scale cosmological N‐body simulations on Sunway TaihuLight supercomputer

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
We present the details of implementing a highly efficient and scalable Cosmological N‐body simulation framework on the heterogeneous many‐core supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight. We manage to conduct cosmological simulations which contain up to 1.6 trillion particles, obtaining a sustained performance of 56.3 PFlops with a weak‐scaling parallel efficiency

Generalized Rotation Curves of the Milky Way from the GAIA DR3 Data Set: Constraints on Mass Models

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The circular velocity curve traced by stars provides a direct means of investigating the potential and mass distribution of the Milky Way. Recent measurements of the Galaxy’s rotation curve have revealed a significant decrease in velocity for Galactic ...

From the Outside Looking in: What can Milky Way Analogues Tell us About the Star Formation Rate of Our Own Galaxy? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The Milky Way has been described as an anaemic spiral, but is its star formation rate (SFR) unusually low when compared to its peers? To answer this question, we define a sample of Milky Way Analogues (MWAs) based on stringent cuts on the best literature estimates of non-transient structural features for the Milky Way.

A comparison of the Andromeda and Milky Way galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1985
A comparison of some of the basic properties of M31 and the Milky Way indicates that in almost every respect M31 is larger than the Galaxy. It is more luminous, redder, more massive, and of earlier Hubble type. A detailed comparison of the spiral structure, based on optical tracers, for comparable areas in the outer parts of each galaxy shows ...

Beneficial Role of Heat‐Treated Lactobacillus sakei HS‐1 on Growth Performance, Nutritional Status and Gut Microbiota in Weaned Piglets

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, Volume 109, Issue 2, Page 362-375, March 2025.
ABSTRACT In the swine industry, there is a strong need to replace an antibiotic growth promoter (AGP) used as feed additives in weaned piglets to enhance nutrient utilization in their diets and improve growth performance. Lactobacillus sakei HS‐1 strain is a microbial preparation isolated from pickles.

Autoantibodies targeting angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 are prevalent and not induced by SARS‐CoV‐2 infection

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 4, 28 February 2025.
ACE2 autoantibodies (IgG, IgA, IgM) were measured in the general population in individuals with no history of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection or vaccination and in individuals with confirmed or self‐reported SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. Seroprevalence of ACE2 autoantibodies was independent of the SARS‐CoV‐2 infection status.
