The Force and Wear of Carbide Mill in Milling Glass
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2010The force and wear of carbide ball-end mill when quartz glass is milled in the dry state has been studied. Cutting experiments have been investigated for different cutting parameters. The relationship between milling force and cutting conditions has been analyzed. Mechanism and patterns of tool wear has also been studied.

Prediction of Ball End Milling Forces
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1996Mechanics of milling with ball ended helical cutters are modeled. The model is based on the analytic representation of ball shaped helical flute geometry, and its rake and clearance surfaces. It is assumed that friction and pressure loads on the rake face are proportional to the uncut chip thickness area.

Fluctuations of cutting force in milling with end mills
2019The article examines the effect of cutting force on the vibrations in the end milling process. The analysis of the appropriate characteristics has shown how the change of cutting force and end mill's parameters affects the increase or decrease of vibrations.

A generalised model of milling forces
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 1998This paper presents the development of a generalised cutting force model for both end-milling and face-milling operations. The model specifies the interaction between workpiece and multiple cutter flutes by the convolution of cutting-edge geometry function with a train of impulses having the period equivalent to tooth spacing.

Cutting Depth Monitoring Based on Milling Force for Robot-Assisted Laminectomy
IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, 2020Goal: In the context of robot-assisted laminectomy surgery, an analytical force model is introduced to guarantee procedural safety. The aim of the method is to intraoperatively monitor the cutting depth via modeling the milling status.

Predicting cutting forces in face milling
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1994Abstract It is shown how orthogonal machining theory can be applied to predict the cutting forces in face milling from a knowledge of the work material properties and cutting conditions. Predicted and experimental results are compared.

Cutting force control of milling machine
Mechatronics, 2007In metal cutting processes, an effective control system, which depends on a suitably developed scheme or set of algorithms can maintain machine tools in good condition. In this paper, an approach is developed for cutting force control of CNC machine. Several linear models are identified based on different working conditions.

Convolution Analysis of Milling Force Pulsation
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1994This paper presents the establishment of a closed form expression for the dynamic forces as explicit functions of cutting parameters and tool/workpiece geometry in milling processes. Based on the existing local cutting force model, the generation of total cutting forces is formulated as the angular domain convolution of three cutting process component ...
