High-speed milling of advanced materials

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1996
Abstract The productivity of machining operations can be increased and the quality of products can be improved by using higher cutting speeds than applied conventionally. However, High-Speed Milling (HSM) is much more than just the high revolution speed of the spindle of the machine tool.

Mechanical alloying of powder materials by ultrasonic milling

Ultrasonics, 2004
An ultrasonic grinding mill was designed. It permits to carry out simultaneously intensive ultrasonic, mechanical and cavitation treatments of powder materials that in turn leads to sharp acceleration of diffusion, mass-transfer processes and solid phase reactions due to crystallite size and structure changing.

Materials balance in a tung oil mill

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1955
SummaryWeights were determined and analyses made of tung fruit milled and of all products leaving the mill for two runs of about 90 tons each in a commercial mill under normal operating conditions. Dry matter, oil, and nitrogen in the fruit were satisfactorily accounted for in products leaving the mill, 101% of the oil being accounted for in each run ...

Mechanically milled alanates as hydrogen storage materials

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2006
Abstract Hydrogen absorption kinetics of Na–Li–Al–H-based samples with different alkali/Al ratio prepared by mechanical milling was investigated. Na2LiAlH6 phase can be obtained even if the initial composition is out of stoichiometry. Rather higher hydrogen absorption rate was observed for the sample of alkali / Al = 2 sample compared to

Ultrasonic Vibration Assisted Milling of Aerospace Materials

Volume 2A: Advanced Manufacturing, 2019
Abstract The machinability of aerospace grade alloys is a major concern in the production of components and is the focus of industrial and academic research projects. Assisted processes have emerged as a potential alternative for machining aerospace materials, increasing the material removal rate while not compromising the quality of the

Process of fine milling for ceramic materials

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1989
Abstract The production of powders with particle sizes lower than 5 μm with a narrow distribution and little contamination is an important aim in ceramic processing. It is generally accepted that in comminution two opposing processes occur: these are the decrease of particle size and the reverse process of agglomeration.

Accuracy of subsampling mill for granular materials

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1979
AbstractA subsampling mill was constructed with 19 subsample spouts similar to the 1 or 2 subsample spouts on the conventional subsampling mills. Samples of peanuts, each of which contained 1 kernel made radioactive by neutron activation, were comminuted in the mill. For treatment M the discharge from each spout was kept separate.

Milling of Brittle and Ductile Materials

2015
Abstract Milling of materials, whether hard and brittle or soft and ductile, is of prime interest and of economic importance to the powder metallurgy (PM) industry. This article discusses the principles of milling, milling parameters, and the powder characteristics required for the process.
