The Galactic Millisecond Pulsar Population [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2012
Among the current sample of over 2000 radio pulsars known primarily in the disk of our Galaxy, millisecond pulsars now number almost 200. Due to the phenomenal success of blind surveys of the Galactic field, and targeted searches of Fermi gamma-ray ...

Pulse Profiles of Millisecond Pulsars [PDF]

open access: greenInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1996
We present a comparison between the average radio pulse profiles of millisecond pulsars (MSPs) in the field and in globular clusters. Our sample consists of 20 field MSPs and 25 cluster MSPs for which observations exist at 400 - 600 MHz.We find that 6 of the 20 field MSPs, or about 30%, have a comparable interpulse at a phase offset of 180 ±30 degrees.

Millisecond Pulsars in 47 Tucanae [PDF]

open access: bronzeInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 2000
AbstractRecent observations of the globular cluster 47 Tuc, made with the Parkes telescope at a wavelength of 20 cm, have resulted in the discovery of nine new millisecond pulsars (MSPs), all in binary systems. The number of timing solutions available has risen from two to 14.

Millisecond pulsar velocities [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1999
We present improved timing parameters for 13 millisecond pulsars (MSPs), including nine new proper motion measurements. These new proper motions bring to 23 the number of MSPs with measured transverse velocities. In light of these new results we present and compare the kinematic properties of MSPs with those of ordinary pulsars.

A Survey for Millisecond Pulsars [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1996
We have searched 960 square degrees of sky for radio pulsars, using the 305 m telescope at Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The 430 MHz survey reached a limiting sensitivity for slow pulsars of 0.7 mJy using a dual-polarization, 32 channel filter bank over 8 MHz of bandwidth.

Defining Millisecond Pulsars

open access: yesResearch Notes of the AAS, 2023
Abstract Millisecond pulsars (MSP) are an important subclass of rotation powered pulsars (RPP), traditionally defined as those with P s  < 20–30 ms and B s  ≲ 1010 G.

Message in a Bottle—An Update to the Golden Record: 1. Objectives and Key Content of the Message

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 10, Issue 12, December 2023., 2023
Abstract In the first part of this series, we delve into the foundational aspects of “Message in a Bottle (MIAB)” (henceforth referred to as MIAB). This study builds upon the legacy of the Voyager Golden Records, launched aboard Voyager 1 and 2 in 1977, which aimed to communicate with intelligent species beyond our world. These records not only offer a

Fit‐Fat Index is better associated with heart rate variability compared to fitness and fatness alone as indicators of cardiometabolic human health

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Human Biology, Volume 35, Issue 11, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Objectives Cardiorespiratory fitness and fatness indicators have been related to heart rate variability (HRV) parameters. The Fit‐Fat Index (FFI) is a single index combining cardiorespiratory fitness and fatness indicators. To the best of our knowledge, no studies have previously analyzed whether FFI are related to cardiac autonomic nervous ...

Search for the Gravitational-wave Background from Cosmic Strings with the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array Second Data Release

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2022
We perform a direct search for an isotropic stochastic gravitational-wave background (SGWB) produced by cosmic strings in the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array (PPTA) Data Release 2 (DR2).
