To MIMO or Not To MIMO in Mobile Satellite Broadcasting Systems

IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2011
This letter studies the potential capacity advantages of introducing a dual polarization per beam paradigm instead of the conventional single polarization per beam in mobile satellite broadcasting systems. This enables the application of MIMO techniques, not yet thoroughly investigated for mobile satellite systems.

MIMO Quadrature-OFDMA systems

2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, 2009
To alleviate the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), high complexity in user terminal and sensitivity to carrier frequency offset (CFO) problems in current OFDMA systems, a Quadrature OFDM (Q-OFDMA) system has been recently proposed in the single-input single-output environment.

Full dimension mimo (FD-MIMO): the next evolution of MIMO in LTE systems

IEEE Wireless Communications, 2014
Full dimension MIMO has attracted significant attention in the wireless industry and academia in the past few years as a candidate technology for the next generation evolution toward beyond fourth generation and fifth generation cellular systems. FD-MIMO utilizes a large number of antennas placed in a 2D antenna array panel for realizing spatially ...

MIMO systems

2012 IEEE First AESS European Conference on Satellite Telecommunications (ESTEL), 2012
The presence of fading in radio communications is the major impairment to reach the promised capacity. Diversity is a way to limit the fading effects and MIMO is a technique to exploit it. It is shown that in terrestrial mobile radio communications MIMO is an effective techniques while for satellite systems it requires further study to exploit possible

Spectral Coexistence of MIMO Radar and MIMO Cellular System

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2017
This paper details designing the precoder of a MIMO-radar spectrally-coexistent with a MIMO cellular system. Spectrum sharing with zero or minimal interference is achieved by using, respectively, the conventional switched null space projection (SNSP) or the newly proposed switched small singular value space projection (SSSVSP).

On the design of coded MIMO systems

2013 Third International Conference on Communications and Information Technology (ICCIT), 2013
In this paper, we investigate two approaches which deal with the construction of space-time block (STB) codes for a system possessing a forward error correcting (FEC) code at the transmitter side. The first approach designs the STB codes to be optimal for a system equipped by a turbo MMSE equalizer at the receiver side, with a minimum peak to average ...

Decentralized Receiver in a MIMO system

2006 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2006
In this paper we investigate the achievable rate of a system that includes a nomadic transmitter with several antennas, which is received by multiple agents, each with a single antenna, suffering independent channel coefficients and additive Gaussian noises. Since the transmitter is nomadic, the agents do not have any decoding ability.

Synchronization for MIMO OFDM systems

GLOBECOM'01. IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference (Cat. No.01CH37270), 2002
This paper proposes a time and frequency synchronization technique for a Q transmit and L receive (Q/spl times/L), MIMO OFDM system. The synchronization is achieved using training symbols which are simultaneously transmitted from Q transmit antennas. The training symbols are directly modulatable orthogonal polyphase sequences.

Polar-Coded MIMO Systems

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2018
To more efficiently realize the coded multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission and improve the system performance, in this paper, we propose a framework combining the polar coding and the MIMO technique, namely the polar-coded MIMO (PC-MIMO) systems.

MIMO CDMA antenna systems

2000 IEEE International Conference on Communications. ICC 2000. Global Convergence Through Communications. Conference Record, 2002
We investigate the performance of a DS/CDMA system with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna processing in the downlink. We formulate the weights for the transmit and receive antennas by trying to obtain the optimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) in a frequency selective fading channel. The gain of our MIMO CDMA system with the
