Engineering Aging: Approaches to Model and Deconstruct Biological Complexity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The macro‐experiences of aging are the result of an accumulation of micro‐changes that occur over time. Abstract The disparity between the global increase in life expectancy and the steady decline in health outcomes with age has been a major driver for developing new ways to research aging.

Reduced Passivity and Enhanced Pitting Around Crack Tip Measured Using Scanning Electrochemical Cell Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
High‐resolution scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM) mapping shows that plastic deformation near fatigue cracks in CA6NM stainless steel progressively reduces passivity and increases pitting susceptibility. This work reveals how mechanical stress drives localized corrosion in corrosion‐fatigue conditions.

Amyloid‐Mediated Remineralization for the Prevention of White Spot Lesions in Orthodontic Treatments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study introduces phase‐transitioned lysozyme (PTL) coatings that trigger layer‐by‐layer hydroxyapatite growth on enamel. The PTL‐induced mineral shield mimics natural enamel structure, providing robust acid resistance and mechanical protection. Acting as a sacrificial barrier, it prevents biofilm‐induced demineralization and enables self‐repair ...

Comparative Study of Bulk and Nanoscale BiVO4 Photoanodes in Photoelectrochemical Oxidation Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Nanoscale and bulk BiVO4 photoelectrodes are fabricated on SnO2‐based substrates via spin coating from the same precursor solution. Their photoelectrochemical behavior toward glycerol and sulfite oxidation is compared. Nanoscale BiVO4 shows higher photocurrents, attributed to improved charge transport and transfer revealed by impedance analysis ...
