Resistivity of pressboard immersed in mineral insulation oil

2012 IEEE 10th International Conference on the Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials, 2012
The pressboard is an important solid insulation dielectric in AC-DC converter transformers. Thus, it is very significant to understand the dielectric properties of the oil-impregnated pressboard. In this paper, the volume resistivities of oil-impregnated pressboard under different conditions have been systematically investigated.

Space charge polarization in insulating mineral oil

2013 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2013
Dielectric spectroscopy is a powerful tool to study dipole relaxation, electrical conduction and structure of materials. Space charge polarization, as a parasitic effect due to the blocking of charge carriers in the vicinity of electrode, can mask dielectric response of the sample at low frequencies.

New end life criteria for mineral insulating oils

2020 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP), 2020
Mineral insulating oil manufacturing processes have changed significantly over the last twenty years. Oil base structures have also changed due to that, furthermore, the use of additives have also been improved. As a result, oil degradation kinetics is currently different, oil properties variation during aging must be re-evaluated. This paper describes

Initiation and formation of partial discharges (PD) in mineral based insulating oil

Proceedings of 1993 IEEE 11th International Conference on Conduction and Breakdown in Dielectric Liquids (ICDL '93), 1994
This paper reports the results of fundamental investigations concerning the behavior of partial discharges (PD) in mineral-based oil with the aim of characterizing the physical mechanisms that lead to the initiation and formation of PD pulses. First the influence of the parameters temperature, moisture, pressure and oil condition on the PD inception ...

MANAGEMENT OF MINERAL INSULATING OIL IN THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM, CENTRAL OIL PLANT

Zbornik radova
In most elements of the high voltage power equipment of the transmission system of the Joint Stock Company „Elektromreža Srbije“ Belgrade (hereinafter: EMS AD), mineral insulating oil is used as an insulating and cooling agent (power transformers, high-voltage switches, current and voltage measuring transformers). One of the most important processes in

On the stability of mineral insulating oils under electrical stress

2009 IEEE Electrical Insulation Conference, 2009
There is a general agreement that in service conditions the quality of mineral insulating oils gradually deteriorates under the impact of electrical, thermal and chemical stress. It is also widely accepted that only the incipient electrical failures such as hot spots and partial discharges are responsible for the gassing of oil.

Review of recent changes to mineral insulating oil specifications

2009 IEEE Electrical Insulation Conference, 2009
In the past few years the major transformer oil specifications used in North America and Europe have undergone a number of changes. These changes have been in response to specific issues such as corrosive sulphur, changes in oil quality levels and the needs of new large transformers to ensure long, trouble free service life for valuable assets.

Mineral Insulating Oils; Functional Requirements, Specifications and Production

Conference Record of the 2006 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation, 2006
This paper describes how requirements on transformer oil are reflected by different specified physical and chemical parameters of oil. Impulse breakdown is not included in many specifications but ASTMD3487 does have it. Breakdown behaviour with DC impulses and a heterogeneous gap is very different from the AC breakdown strength.
