The Evolution of the Cocos‐North America‐Caribbean Triple Junction From Detrital Zircon Analysis

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract The tectonic framework and Cenozoic evolution of the Cocos–North America–Caribbean (Co–NA–Ca) triple junction remain subjects of major geological importance due to their complexity and regional impact. New U–Pb zircon geochronology of detrital sediments and detailed structural and geomorphic mapping from southern Chiapas, Mexico, provide ...

Características e efeito da fração granulométrica < 2 µm no comportamento de queima de uma argila Characteristics and effect of the granulometric fraction < 2 µm on the firing behavior of a clay

Rupture and Relamination of Continental Lithosphere in a Subduction System (Variscan Orogeny, SW Iberia)

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Relamination is closely connected to subduction zones. Despite the numerous high‐P metamorphic belts recognized on Earth, relamination remains a poorly documented process. We present a continental subduction zone where the exhuming high‐P rocks became a relaminant under the upper plate.

Tracking the Caribbean Magmatic Evolution: The British Virgin Islands as a Transition Between the Greater and Lesser Antilles Arcs

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract The British Virgin Islands (BVI) archipelago, located between the Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles, is a key location to study the geodynamic evolution of the Caribbean plate. Geochemistry of the studied samples reveals typical volcanic arc signatures, including a calc‐alkaline affinity, strong negative HFSE anomalies, and LILE ...

Rift‐Related Low‐Pressure–High‐Temperature Granulite Facies Metamorphism Generates Widespread Peraluminous Crustal Melts: Evidence From the Early Jurassic Mexican Crust

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract High heat fluxes occurring in rift settings are expected to generate partially melted low‐pressure–high‐temperature granulites (LP–HTG). Therefore, studying these rocks can offer valuable insights into crustal reworking during extension. However, our interpretations are limited by the rarity of LP–HTG in the metamorphic record.
