Molecular characterization of enterococci harboring genotype and phenotype incongruence related to glycopeptide resistance isolated in Brazilian hospitals

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2008
Three Enterococcus faecalis and one Enterococcus faecium strains were characterized by plasmid profile, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and determination of antimicrobial minimal inhibitory concentrations. VanA elements were characterized by Long

A Posteriori Error Estimates for a Nonconforming Finite Element Discretization of the Stokes–Biot System

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2022
This paper presents an a posteriori error estimator for a (piecewise linear) nonconforming finite element approximation of the problem defining the interaction between a free fluid and poroelastic structure.

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

On block irreducible forms over Euclidean domains

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1980
In this paper a general canonical form for elements in a ring Euclidean with respect to a real valuation is established. It is also shown that this form is unique and minimal thus gives the arithmetical weight of an element with respect to a radix.

Experience With Performing Rheocarna Therapy via the Single‐Needle Method for Treatment of Chronic Limb‐Threatening Ischemia

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This study investigated the safety and efficacy of single‐needle Rheocarna therapy for chronic limb‐threatening ischemia (CLTI) with wounds. Methods Six patients with CLTI involving ulcers unresponsive to revascularization underwent single‐needle Rheocarna treatment.

Numerical analysis of a coupled pair of Cahn-Hilliard equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A mathematical analysis has been carried out for a coupled pair of Cahn-Hilliard equations, which appear in modelling a phase separation on a thin film of binary liquid mixture coating substrate, which is wet by one component.

An Active Annular Ring Frequency Selective Surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Offering good performance in terms of all polarizations affected and good angular stability, the ring element is a popular choice in frequency selective surface (FSS) designs.

Exploration of running in minimal and conventional footwear on tibial stress fracture probability in habitual and non-habitual minimal users

open access: yesBaltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
This research sought to investigate the impact of minimal and conventional footwear on the likelihood of tibial stress fractures among individuals who habitually and do not habitually use minimal footwear. Ten males who habitually ran in minimal footwear

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Numerical analysis of a coupled pair of Cahn-Hilliard equations with non-smooth free energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A mathematical analysis has been carried out for a coupled pair of Cahn-Hilliard equations with a double well potential function with infinite walled free energy, which appears in modelling a phase separation on a thin film of binary liquid mixture ...
