Optimal regularity for codimension one minimal surfaces with a free boundary

open access: yesManuscripta Mathematica, 1987
We consider the problem to minimize n-dimensional area among currents T whose boundary (or part of it) is supposed to lie in a given hypersurface S of \({\mathbb{R}}^{n+1}\). It is shown that the set of singular points of T - i.e. the closure of those points where T is not an embedded submanifold with boundary - has Hausdorff-dimension at most n-7.

Ionomycin suppresses cancer cell growth by disrupting mitochondrial transcription

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we identify a new function for the selective Ca2+ ionophore, ionomycin, as an inhibitor of mitochondrial transcription. Both total and nascent RNA analyses revealed that ionomycin treatment reduces the transcription of mitochondrial genes.

On the geometric interpretation of the nonnegative rank [PDF]

open access: yes
The nonnegative rank of a nonnegative matrix is the minimum number of nonnegative rank-one factors needed to reconstruct it exactly. The problem of determining this rank and computing the corresponding nonnegative factors is difficult; however it has ...

Exploring the influence of lactoferrin on wound healing and related signaling pathways: a systematic review

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Lactoferrin promotes wound healing by activating MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and extracellular matrix pathways, enhancing fibroblast remodeling, proliferation, and re‐epithelialization. These mechanisms highlight its therapeutic potential in inflammation control, tissue repair, and remodeling.

Dual-bionic titanium scaffolds based on a gyroid-sheet structure and BaTiO3 piezoelectric coating: a synergistic approach for bone defect repair

open access: yesMaterials Futures
Three-dimensional-printed porous titanium alloy implants have shown significant potential for addressing large segmental bone defects in weight-bearing applications.

Delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins in mice using cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection in mice for delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins. A critical limitation of DNA vaccines and other therapeutics is transfection in vivo to produce the encoded antigens or therapeutic proteins. Cutaneous suction‐based methods have demonstrated effectiveness in many animal models and have been successfully ...

Nano-second pulsed laser ablation of inconel 718 and MMPCD for simultaneous optimal ablation rate and surface quality

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study investigates the ablation performance of Inconel 718, a nickel-based superalloy, and metal matrix polycrystalline diamond (MMPCD), a super composite, using a nano-second (ns) pulsed laser across a range of ablation conditions.

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Computing approximate geodesics and minimal surfaces using watershed and graph cuts

open access: yes, 2007
Geodesics and minimal surfaces are widely used for medical image segmentation. At least two different approaches are used to compute such segmentations.

Minimal surface scaffold designs for tissue engineering

open access: yes, 2016
Triply-periodic minimal surfaces are shown to be a more versatile source of biomorphic scaffold designs than currently reported in the tissue engineering literature. A scaffold architecture with sheetlike morphology based on minimal surfaces is discussed,
