Minimum and absolute minimum spherical aberration of a simple, thin lens

American Journal of Physics, 1980
Traditional treatments of third-order spherical aberration of a thin lens express the results in terms of a function Ls, involving a lens shape factor q and an object-image position factor p. The function Ls is defined in terms of the difference of the reciprocal paraxial and zonal image distances instead of the difference in distances, which is ...

Minimum aberration designs with two-level and four-level-factors

Biometrika, 1993
Summary: For optimal assignment of factors to columns of a \(4^ m 2^ n\) design, we consider extensions of the minimum aberration criterion for the 2- level designs. Minimum aberration \(4^ 1 2^ n\) and \(4^ 2 2^ n\) designs in 16 and 32 runs are obtained and tabulated. Some results on the wordlength patterns and design classification are obtained.

On the magnetic electron lens of minimum sphrical aberration

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1978
For the development of the electron microscope, in which high resolving power is demanded, it is important to construct an electron objective lens with minimum spherical aberration. In 1943, one of the authors published the paper on the approximate calculation of the electromagnetic field to give a minimum spherical aberration and also published the ...

Sensitivity of minimum variance beamforming to tissue aberrations

2008 IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, 2008
Minimum variance beamformers adapt to the received data. In the case of perfect data, this beamformer can produce images with better point and edge definitions than conventional delay-and-sum beamformers. But in medical ultrasound imaging, the quality of the data is often corrupted by aberration.

Layout of a double grid monochromator with minimum aberrations

Journal of Optical Technology, 2005
This paper proposes a layout for a double grid monochromator with addition of dispersions, in which the aberrations of the objectives and of the dispersive elements (flat reflective diffraction gratings) are simultaneously minimized. Because of quadruple diffraction of the light beams, the layout can be fairly compact, with high angular dispersion and ...

Minimum Lee-moment aberration and its applications

SCIENTIA SINICA Mathematica, 2016
Various criteria have been proposed to compare and assess fractional factorial designs. Among them the minimum moment aberration criterion is conceptually simple and computationally cheap. However, the power moments in the minimum moment aberration criterion depend on the Hamming distances between two runs, which leads to minimum moment aberration ...

Quadrupole-Octopole Aberration Correctors with Minimum Fields

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1971
Magnetic quadrupole-octopole systems are treated theoretically. A technique is given for finding the minimum octopole field that will correct any geometrical aberration of any orthogonal quadrupole system. It is demonstrated with the correction of aperture aberration and coma in anamorphotic and orthomorphic objective type systems. Further minimization
