Minimum Aperture Aberrations of Quadrupole Lens Systems

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1970
A focusing system for monochromatic beams of charged particles, with magnetic quadrupole fields having common planes of optical symmetry, is treated theoretically. After specifying certain linear focusing properties for such systems, the calculus of variations is applied to obtain systems with minimum aperture aberrations.

A Simple Method for Obtaining Minimum Aberration Designs

Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 2010
Minimum aberration designs are preferred in practice, especially when it is desired to carry out a multi-factor experiment using less number of runs. Several authors considered constructions of minimum aberration designs. Some used computer algorithms and some listed good designs from the exhausted search.

Minimum Chromatic Aberrations of Magnetic Quadrupole Objective Lenses

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1971
Orthogonal magnetic quadrupole lens systems that could serve as electron microscope objectives are treated theoretically. After certain constraints are placed on the quadrupole field strength, the calculus of variations is applied to obtain systems with minimum chromatic aberrations.
