Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Study on Dynamic Minimum Thickness of Cut by Nanoscratch Testing

open access: yes, 2011
Nanoscratch tests showing clear ploughing behavior and stable chip formation was conducted to investigate the influence of friction coefficient on the minimum thickness of cut.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Practical Performance of Efficient Minimum Cut Algorithms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In the late eighties and early nineties, three major exciting new developments (and some ramifications) in the computation of minimum capacity cuts occurred and these developments motivated us to evaluate the old and new methods experimentally.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A distributed minimum cut approximation scheme [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 26th ACM symposium on Parallelism in algorithms and architectures, 2014
In this paper, we study the problem of approximating the minimum cut in a distributed message-passing model, the CONGEST model. The minimum cut problem has been well-studied in the context of centralized algorithms. However, there were no known non-trivial algorithms in the distributed model until the recent work of Ghaffari and Kuhn.

Minimum Fundamental Cut Basis Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Any tree in an undirected graph defines a fundamental cut basis. The minimum fundamental cut basis problem is to find a tree minimizing the weight of the corresponding basis.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The minimum cut cover problem

open access: yesElectronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics, 2011
Abstract We studied the minimum cut cover problem that consists in finding a minimum cardinality family of cuts C of a graph G such that each edge of G belongs to at least one cut C ∈ C . This problem is NP -hard and arises in fault testing and diagnosis, pattern recognition, and biological identification.
