Influence of pressure on the minimum fluidization velocity

open access: yesChemical Engineering Science, 1991
The influence of pressure on minimum fluidization velocity has been measured in a pressurized fluidized bed. Three different bed materials, corresponding to Geldart's group B or group D particles, were investigated at pressures between 0.1 and 1.6 MPa. The onset of fluidization was determined both visually and by pressure drop measurements. The results

Prediction of minimum fluidization velocity for vibrated fluidized bed

Powder Technology, 2003
Abstract The prediction of minimum fluidization velocity for vibrated fluidized bed was performed. The Geldart group A and C particles were used as the fluidizing particles. The method based on Ergun equation was used to predict the minimum fluidization velocity. The calculated results were compared with the experimental data. The calculated results

Minimum fluidization velocity at elevated temperature in tapered fluidized bed

open access: yesChemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 2008
Very little data of minimum fluidization velocity at elevated temperatures of tapered bed are available in the literature. This study was undertaken to provide some data under elevated temperature conditions in tapered bed. Data on minimum fluidization velocity have been obtained experimentally for temperature up to 800 °C in case of 0.5 mm diameter of

Effect of pressure on minimum fluidization velocity

Journal of Thermal Science, 2007
Minimum fluidization velocity of quartz sand and glass bead under different pressures of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 MPa were investigated. The minimum fluidization velocity decreases with the increasing of pressure. The influence of pressure to the minimum fluidization velocities is stronger for larger particles than for smaller ones.

Minimum fluidization velocity and bed expansion of the inverse fluidized bed

open access: yesParticulate Science and Technology, 2023
To define the fluid-dynamic properties of inverse fluidized beds, studies of the minimum fluidization velocity and bed expansion were performed in this work. The experiments were performed in an inverse fluidized bed of polypropylene and polystyrene particles in a cylindrical column using water and an aqueous glycerol solution of different ...

Evaluation of correlations for minimum fluidization velocity (U) in gas-solid fluidization

Powder Technology, 2018
Abstract The minimum fluidization velocity (Umf), defined as the superficial gas velocity at which the drag force of the upward moving gas becomes equal to the weight of the particles in the bed, is one of the most important parameters associated with a fluidized bed system.

Acoustic Field Effects on Minimum Fluidization Velocity in a 3D Fluidized Bed

open access: yesVolume 2: Fora, 2012
Fluidized beds are used in a variety of process industries because they provide uniform temperature distributions, low pressure drops, and high heat/mass rates. Minimum fluidization velocity is an important factor in understanding the hydrodynamic behavior of fluidized beds, and this characteristic may be modified through high frequency (sound ...

Fluidization at vacuum conditions. A generalized equation for the prediction of minimum fluidization velocity

Chemical Engineering Science, 1996
The hydrodynamical behaviour of fluidized beds at reduced pressures is studied. The minimum fluidization velocity is strongly influenced by pressure, decreasing as pressure increases. The well-known equation of Wen and Yu and two equations proposed for the calculation of umf at reduced pressures are tested; the comparison with experimental data shows ...
