Minimal bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) of nine antimicrobial agents were determined for clinical isolates by a replica plating method. Membranes were placed on the antibiotic-containing plates and the organisms replicated onto the membranes. After 18 h incubation the minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined, the membranes were ...

Measuring Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations in Mycobacteria
2009An agar dilution method for measuring minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, based on the method of proportion, is described. Mycobacterium strains are grown on Middlebrook 7H10 (or 7H11) agar medium with twofold serially diluted drug concentrations in order to determine specific inhibitory values.

For a drug to be clinically useful, plasma concentrations of the agent must achieve effective concentrations. Logically, therefore, optimum administration of drugs includes selection of doses that provide adequate exposure. This approach has been successfully used during drug development—eg, for antibacterials 1 —and has been applied to agents used in ...

Determining Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations in Liquid Cultures or on Solid Medium
2021Antimicrobial susceptibility testing is the mainstay of tuberculosis drug development programs. In this chapter, we describe methods for determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration of compounds against Mycobacterium tuberculosis growing in liquid media as a function of carbon source, detergent, and environmental stress imposed by acidic pH as
