Burr Formation in milling with minimum quantity lubrication
Production Engineering, 2008In milling, burrs are formed on entry and exit edges of the workpiece to be machined like in all material removal processes. In the subsequent production these burrs have to be removed. Understanding the influencing factors and burr formation mechanisms can help to avoid or reduce burrs.

Optimization of Minimum Quantity Lubrication Parameters
2020Cutting fluids are inevitable in manufacturing industries due to their cooling and lubricating properties. But their applications in large quantities pose serious threat to biological bodies in the oceans and rivers when disposed untreated. Strict rules and fines imposed by most of the countries on such industries created an economic and environmental ...

Performance profiling of minimum quantity lubrication in machining
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2006This study develops the analytical understanding of mechanical and environmental effects of minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) in machining and profiles the MQL performance as functions of machining and fluid application parameters. Physics-based predictive models are formulated to quantitatively describe the resulting contact stress and temperature ...

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2021
In minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) processing, lubricating oil is passed through the air flow field in the form of oil droplets. The oil droplets penetrate the field and are adsorbed by it to form a film in the capillary tube at the workpiece–tool interface.

Study on minimum quantity lubrication in micro-grinding
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2011This paper discusses the performance of the minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) in micro-grinding based on ground surface roughness and tool life. The effects of grinding and lubricating parameters on machining performance are studied. Experiments for dry grinding and grinding with pure air are also conducted for comparison.

Investigation of Accuracy in Microdrilling with Minimum Quantity Lubrication
Materials Science Forum, 2017Cutting fluid plays an important role in machining processes to achieve dimensional accuracy, reduce tool wear, and improve tool life. Use of flood cooling conventionally used in machining is not cost effective and consumption of huge amount of cutting fluids is not health and environmental friendly. Therefore, one of the alternatives is to use minimum

A Review on Minimum Quantity Lubrication for Machining Processes
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2014In the pursuit toward achieving dry cutting, air machining, minimum quantity lubrication (MQL), and cryogenically cooled machining are the stepping stones. Nevertheless, machining is always accompanied by certain difficulties, and hence none of these methods has provided a complete solution.

Characterization of Micromist for Effective Minimum Quantity Lubrication
Advanced Materials Research, 2015This research characterizes flow of micromist for machining purpose. Liquid lubricant with contact angle less than 5° is chosen for best wetting on workpiece and tool materials. A high nozzle air speed of 100 m/s produces micromist with 20° spherical cone angle containing droplets of 4 μm average diameter, but smaller droplets might raise an ...
