Advancements in Biochar Functionalization for Sustainable Adsorption of Sulfur‐Containing Gaseous Pollutants

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2025.
The study highlights the physical, chemical, biological, and advanced and hybrid biochar functionalization techniques and the outcomes of recent studies on the deployment of modified biochar for the removal of sulfur‐containing gaseous pollutants are reviewed. Functionalized biochar is an eco‐friendly, and effective material for adsorption of H2S, SO2,

Micro‐Doping of Lithium Ion Battery Cathode Materials ‐ A Performance and Sustainability Case Study of Lithium Nickel Oxide

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 9, Issue 10, October 2025.
This study presents a screening of the literature micro‐dopants for LiNiO2 (LNO), aiming to identify excellent electrochemical performance without compromising affordability or safety. Abstract High‐nickel lithium‐ion battery cathode materials are increasingly favored for their superior energy density but face challenges related to toxicity, cost, and

Resource availability at Taurus-Littrow [PDF]

open access: yes
Early lunar technologies will probably use a common lunar material as ore. They will be robust to minor fluctuations in feedstock composition and will not require appreciable feedstock beneficiation such as rock grinding or mineral concentration ...

Methodology for Stress Concentration Analysis in Corrosion Pits Using the Finite Element Method

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 76, Issue 10, Page 1453-1460, October 2025.
The stress concentration factor ( K t) calculated using the methodology proposed for discretized models can be significantly higher compared with analytical models. Discretized models base the corrosion pit shape on measurements through surface topographic techniques, while analytical models simplify the pit shape to elliptical, semielliptical, or ...

The Influence of Subcritical Annealing and Cold Working on the Hydrogen Embrittlement Susceptibility of X65 D Pipeline Steel

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 76, Issue 10, Page 1478-1496, October 2025.
This study investigated the effect of subcritical heat treatment and cold work on the hydrogen embrittlement (HE) susceptibility of the X65 D pipeline steel. Hydrogen charging reduced the ductility of all specimens. Both subcritical annealing and cold working decreased somewhat the degree of HE.

Enhancing the Resilience of Platinum Group Metal Supply Chains: Mine to (Re)use

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 33, Issue 5, Page 7069-7085, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Platinum group metals (PGMs) are critical elements that play a vital role in sustainable energy transition technologies such as catalysts, hydrogen production and use, and electronics. Securing a resilient PGM supply chain would support the current industrial, societal, and economic infrastructure.

Trajectories of adoption for silver and bloomery iron in China from the Spring and Autumn period (c. 770–476 BC)

open access: yesArchaeometry, Volume 67, Issue 5, Page 1267-1282, October 2025.
Abstract We examine the number of sites with silver objects in China over a period of 3500 years to suggest that technologies that stimulated the indigenous exploitation of silver‐bearing ores were innovated during the Spring and Autumn period (c. 770–476 BCE), and that increased centralisation and bureaucratisation from the Warring States period (475 ...

Determining the impact of elemental composition on the long‐term survival of vegetable‐tanned leather in archaeological environments

open access: yesArchaeometry, Volume 67, Issue 5, Page 1394-1411, October 2025.
Abstract This research paper investigated whether elemental analysis can differentiate leather manufacturing from soil contamination and whether soil hydrology and elemental composition impact degradation of leather. Portable X‐ray fluorescence (pXRF) is a quick method for monitoring large‐scale changes and groupings of aggregate inorganic elemental ...
