The Association Between Emergency Department Crowding and the Disposition of Patients With Transient Ischemic Attack or Minor Stroke.

open access: yesAcademic Emergency Medicine, 2015
BACKGROUND Emergency department (ED) crowding has been associated with adverse events, including short-term death and hospitalization among discharged patients. The mechanisms are poorly understood, but may include altered physician decision-making about

Hydroxychloroquine Associated with Lower Glomerular Filtration Rate Decline in Lupus Nephritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Background Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) protects kidney function in lupus nephritis (LN) by preventing flares, yet some cohort studies show no significant benefit in kidney function with HCQ. Clarifying these conflicting findings by showing early and long‐term benefits of HCQ on kidney function preservation is critical. Therefore, we analyzed data from our

HMGB1 Derived from the Pyroptotic Microenvironment Promotes Macrophage Extracellular Traps in Hirschsprung‐Associated Enterocolitis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
HMGB1 derived from the pyroptotic environment in Hirschsprung‐associated enterocolitis mediates the formation of macrophage extracellular traps through TLR4 ‐p38 MAPK/p65 NF‐kB signaling pathways. Macrophage extracellular traps induce increased ROS production and pyroptosis of colonic epithelial cells.

Could minor neurological dysfunction be a type of non-cerebral palsy motor impairment?

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria
Non-cerebral palsy motor impairments have been increasing over time, especially in preterm-born children, with a variety of labels, including, but not limited to, developmental coordination disorder and minor neurological dysfunction.

Examining the academic experiences of minorities preparing for the professoriate

open access: yes, 2018
The critical need to understand the socialization experiences of prospective minority faculty is apparent today. If higher education can understand more about the experiences of new minority faculty members, perhaps the academy will be able to develop continued supportive strategies that enhance their development into the academic profession.

Influence of a Standard Heat Treatment on the Microstructure and Properties of Inconel X‐750 Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ni‐base superalloys produced using additive manufacturing (AM) have a different response to heat treatments when compared to their conventional counterparts. Due to such unpredictability, various alloys with industrial interest are currently overlooked in most prior AM research.

Beyond the East/West Dichotomy—The Course Conveys the Benefits of an Ayurvedic Lens for Global Health

open access: yesGlobal Advances in Health and Medicine, 2019
The course Yoga: Theory and Practice (YTP) evolved from the realization that graduate and undergraduate academic offerings of “yoga courses” were filled beyond capacity, while students were not being exposed to the depth and breadth of what yoga has to ...

First‐Principles Modeling of Solid Solution Softening and Hardening Effects in Al–Mg–Zr–Si Aluminum Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The role of various alloying elements in face‐centered cubic aluminum on the barrier of a Shockley partial dislocation during its motion is presented. The study aims to understand how alloying atoms such as Mg, Si, and Zr affect the energy landscape for dislocation motion, thus influencing the solid solution hardening and softening in aluminum, which ...

Antimicrobial Titanium–Copper Alloys: The Role of Microstructure in Arc‐Melted Compositions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐containing titanium alloys show promise in combating orthopedic implant infections. This study explores the influence of heat treatment on Ti‐11.5Cu and Ti‐33Cu alloys, revealing that larger Ti2Cu precipitates (≈5 μm) enhance antimicrobial efficacy through increased surface contact. Results suggest contact sterilization is the primary mechanism,
