The transport of large near-Earth objects into the Centaur region

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Near-Earth objects (NEOs) and Centaurs are minor bodies that orbit the Sun in the terrestrial and giant-planet regions, respectively. Recent studies show that approximately 9% of the known large NEOs that leave the terrestrial planet region are ...

Early intrafamily collisions in newly formed asteroid families

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. The dynamical and physical properties of asteroid family members are widely used to reconstruct the collisional evolution of the main belt and of individual objects.

Cumulative Social Disadvantage and Disease Activity in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance Registry Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Social determinants of health (SDOH) contribute to juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) disparities, but most studies have assessed SDOH independently rather than cumulatively across individual, family, and neighborhood levels. Using a socioecological framework, we investigated the relationship among cumulative social disadvantage ...

Weak S-type asteroids compared to C-type explain the observed size distribution of the main belt

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
The main belt, the region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, is home to more than 1 million asteroids. These asteroids form orbital groups, (i.e., asteroid families formed by collisions) and also spectral groups (taxonomies) with different chemical ...

Calibration of the angular momenta of the minor planets in the solar system

open access: yes, 2019
Aims. We aim to determine the relative angle between the total angular momentum of the minor planets and that of the Sun-planets system, and to improve the orientation of the invariable plane of the solar system. Methods. By utilizing physical parameters

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

Nonthermal Plasma Reduction of Nickel Oxide Layers by Atmospheric Pressure Dielectric Barrier Discharge in Argon/Hydrogen

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores the reduction of nickel oxide layers using dielectric barrier discharge plasma in an argon–hydrogen atmosphere. The results reveal a strong temperature dependence, enabling complete reduction of thick oxide layers at 200°C within seconds.

An Objective Classification Scheme for Solar-System Bodies Based on Surface Gravity

open access: yesGalaxies
We introduce succinct and objective definitions of the various classes of objects in the solar system. Unlike the formal definitions adopted by the International Astronomical Union in 2006, group separation is obtained from measured physical properties ...

The naming of minor planets: multicultural relationships

open access: yes, 2009
To date, among the hundred or so minor planets we discovered with various instruments around the world, twenty of these objects have been definitively numbered and named. We have choosen the names according to our centers of interest. In honouring people

Minor planet astrophotometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Historically, the Minor Planet Center (MPC) has concentrated on improving the quality of the astrometric observations and the resulting orbits of minor planets.
