Comparison of kinship‐identification methods for robust stock assessment using close‐kin mark–recapture data for Pacific bluefin tuna

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
In this study, we compared three methods for kinship identification using different algorithms in samples of wild Pacific bluefin tuna and generated genotyping data. The three methods resulted in different numbers of inferred kinship pairs for both generated and actual data. Particularly for the half‐sibling pairs, considerable number of false‐positive

Dimensions of Majority and Minority Groups [PDF]

open access: yesGroup Processes & Intergroup Relations, 2008
Several definitions of majority and minority groups can be found in the social psychological literature. They involve numeric size, power/status, and counternormative position, but size is most commonly used in experimental research to manipulate minority/minority status. Does this practice mirror real-world conceptualizations?

Cytosolic‐enhanced dark Epac‐based FRET sensors allow for intracellular cAMP detection in live cells via FLIM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We describe a novel set of Epac‐based FRET‐FLIM biosensors with improved fully cytosolic distribution, achieved without compromising the state‐of‐the‐art performance of our original designs, for detecting cAMP dynamics in real time in live cells with high precision and reliability.

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

A characterisation of virtually free groups via minor exclusion [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We give a new characterisation of virtually free groups using graph minors. Namely, we prove that a finitely generated, infinite group is virtually free if and only if for any finite generating set, the corresponding Cayley graph is minor excluded. This answers a question of Ostrovskii and Rosenthal.
