Estimation of variance and covariance components--MINQUE theory

open access: yesJournal of Multivariate Analysis, 1971
The paper consists of two parts. The first part deals with solutions to some optimization problems. The general problem is one of minimising trace \(AVA' U\) with respect to elements of matrix \(A\), where \(V\) and \(U\) are positive definite matrices, subject restrictions of the type \(AX=0\) or \(X'AX=0\) and trace \(AV_i=p_i\), \(i=1,\dots,k\), or \

Computation of variance components by the MINQUE method

open access: yesJournal of Multivariate Analysis, 1986
We present a new method of computing C. R. Rao's MINQUE in variance component models \((y=X\beta +U_ 1\xi_ 1+\cdots +U_ p\xi_ p)\), which requires only inversion and storage of \(n_ i\times n_ i\) matrices, where \(n_ i\) is the number of columns in \(U_ i\). In many cases most of these matrices are of diagonal form.

The nonnegative MINQUE estimate

open access: yesJournal of Multivariate Analysis, 1985
The purpose of this paper is to give a characterization of the nonnegative MINQUE estimate for variance components. A similar characterization has been given by \textit{F. Pukelsheim} [Math. Operationsforsch. Stat., Ser. Stat. 12, 271-286 (1981; Zbl 0488.62051)] but only in some special cases.

Comparison of the Stochastic Models for Double-Differenced GPS Measurements [PDF]

open access: yesITB Journal of Engineering Science, 2004
Double-differenced GPS carrier phase measurements are commonly used in GPS precise positioning applications and processed with algorithms based on the least-squares (LS) principle. In order to apply the LS principle, one needs to define properly both the

Genetics in psychiatry: Methods, clinical applications and future perspectives. [PDF]

open access: yesPCN Rep, 2022
Abstract Psychiatric disorders and related traits have a demonstrated genetic component, with heritability estimated by twin studies generally between 80% and 40%. Their pathogenesis is complex and multi‐determined: environmental factors interact with a polygenic architecture, making difficult the development of models able to stratify patients or ...

Eine Bemerkung zur Anwendung der MINQUE-Methode

open access: yes, 1977
In dem von Hildreth und Houck (1968) vorgestellten linearen Regressionsmodell mit stochastisehen Koeffizienten lautet die t-te Gleichung $${{\text{y}}_{\text{t}}} = \mathop \sum \limits_{{\text{k = 1}}}^{\text{K}} {\text{ }}{\beta _{{\text{tk}}}}{{\text{x}}_{{\text{tk}}}} = \mathop \sum \limits_{{\text{k = 1}}}^{\text{K}} {\text{ }}\left( {{\beta _{

Estimating Chronological Age From the Electrical Activity of the Brain: How EEG-Age Can Be Used as a Marker of General Brain Functioning. [PDF]

open access: yesPsychophysiology
Impact Statement Our goal was to use the EEG power‐frequency spectrum to estimate ‘brain age’. Using multivariate methods to analyze the broad EEG spectrum (0.1–45 Hz), EEG‐age and chronological age were correlated strongly, and EEG‐age was a more accurate estimate and accounted for more variance in chronological age than well‐established Peak Alpha ...

Genome‐wide association studies for epistatic genetic effects on fertility and reproduction traits in Holstein cattle

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Volume 140, Issue 6, Page 624-637, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Non‐additive genetic effects are well known to play an important role in the phenotypic expression of complex traits, such as fertility and reproduction. In this study, a genome scan was performed using 41,640 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers to identify genomic regions associated with epistatic (additive‐by‐additive) effects in ...

Assessing the utility of a novel entrustment‐supervision assessment tool

open access: yesMedical Education, Volume 57, Issue 10, Page 949-957, October 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Work‐based assessments (WBAs) are increasingly used to inform decisions about trainee progression. Unfortunately, WBAs often fail to discriminate between trainees of differing abilities and have poor reliability. Entrustment‐supervision scales may improve WBA performance, but there is a paucity of literature directly comparing them ...

Systems of seemingly unrelated regression equations with time varying coefficients— An interplay of Kalman filtering, scoring, EM- and MINQUE-method

open access: yes, 1992
This paper gives a detailed description of the implementation of ML-estimation using scoring and EM for the hyperparameters of a particular econometric state space.
