Does Neuroticism Disrupt the Psychological Benefits of Nostalgia? A Meta‐analytic Test
Abstract Nostalgia, a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, confers self‐oriented, existential, and social benefits. We examined whether nostalgic engagement is less beneficial for individuals who are high in neuroticism (i.e. emotionally unstable and prone to negative affect).

ḥdug as a testimonial marker in Classical and Old Tibetan [PDF]
DeLancey (1992) and Hongladarom (1994) suppose that ḥdug means 'sit' in Old and Classical Tibetan, and that these languages entirely lack the evidential use of this morpheme well known in 'Lhasa' Tibetan.

AbstractMicroRNAs are a class of non‐coding molecules found to regulate a variety of cellular functions in health and disease. Dysregulation of microRNAs is involved in liver disease, especially hepatocarcinogenesis. Since primary hepatic malignancies are typically characterized by late diagnosis, frequent recurrence, and poor response to adjuvant ...

Expression of Circulating miR-155, miR-21, miR-221, miR-30a, miR-34a and miR-29a: Comparison of Colonic and Rectal Cancer [PDF]
Colorectal cancer is an increasing cause of death. Circulating microRNAs (miRs) could be great diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of colorectal cancer, but further continuation of their utility is needed for their comprehensive application.Twenty-seven patients with colonic cancer, 16 with rectal cancer and 12 healthy volunteers as controls, were ...

Unveiling power, or why social science's task is explanation
Abstract This short essay contends that sociology should devote attention to causal explanation in order to expose lies. It argues that lies about causes are common in society and social science is in a unique privileged position to offer social knowledge that can dispel such lies. Offering causal explanations is a vital task of this project.

miR‐9, miR‐21, miR‐27b, and miR‐34a Expression in HPV16/58/52‐Infected Cervical Cancer [PDF]
The aim of this study was to observe the expression of miR‐9, miR‐21, miR‐27b, and miR‐34a related with E6/E7 in HPV16‐, HPV52‐, and HPV58‐infected cervical cancer patients and explore their possible role in cervical cancer with HPV infection. The expression levels of 4 miRNAs were detected in cervical exfoliated cells using qRT‐PCR.

The mirative and scalar meaning of even
The analysis I develop here draws on the concept of mirativity (DeLancey 1987) and on Kay’s (1990) insight into the scalar nature of even. I show that even calls for the reconstruction of an implicit scale, on which the element highlighted by this ...

MicroRNAs miR-19, miR-340, miR-374 and miR-542 regulate MID1 protein expression
The MID1 ubiquitin ligase activates mTOR signaling and regulates mRNA translation. Misregulation of MID1 expression is associated with various diseases including midline malformation syndromes, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. While this indicates that MID1 expression must be tightly regulated to prevent disease states specific mechanisms ...

Circulating microRNAs, miR-939, miR-595, miR-519d and miR-494, Identify Cirrhotic Patients with HCC [PDF]
The performance of circulating biomarkers for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is sub-optimal. In this study we tested circulating microRNAs as biomarkers for HCC in cirrhotic patients by performing a two stage study: a discovery phase conducted by microarray and a validation phase performed by qRT-PCR in an independent series of 118 ...
