On the miscibility gap in tungsten-based alloys

open access: yesInternational Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, 2023
In this work we establish an approach to model miscibility gaps of alloys using statistical physics, lattice dynamics from first-principles calculations. We carefully calculate the entropy to include all processes introducing disorder to the system, i.e., combining the electronic, phononic, and configuration entropies.

Thermodynamic modeling of the Fe−Zn system using exponential temperature dependence for the excess Gibbs energy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mining and Metallurgy. Section B: Metallurgy, 2011
The Fe-Zn binary system was re−modeled using exponential equation Li=hi•exp(-T/τi) (i=0,1,2…) to describe the excess Gibbs energy of the solution phases and intermetallic compounds with large homogeneities.

Surface energy driven miscibility gap suppression during nucleation of III-V ternary alloys

open access: yes, 2021
The existence of a miscibility gap limits the range of solid compositions which are possible to achieve under near-equilibrium growth conditions. Circumventing the miscibility gap is of paramount importance for device fabrication.

The miscibility gap between the rock salt and wurtzite phases in the MgO–ZnO binary system to 3.5 GPa [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mineralogy, 2023
At ambient pressure, MgO crystallizes in the rock salt (B1) structure, whereas ZnO crystallizes in the wurtzite structure (B4). The asymmetric miscibility gap between these two structures in the MgO–ZnO binary system narrows with increasing pressure ...

Miscibility Gap in the Microbial Fitness Landscape

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2005
It is shown from molecular statistical considerations that a demixing instability exists in the moment space of a microbial protein expression profile. Although avoidance of demixing is generally requisite for biological function, a comparison with proteomic and genomic data suggests that many microbes lie close to the onset of this instability.

Phase diagram calculations for the znse – bese system by first-principles based thermodynamic monte carlo integration [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Methods in Materials Science, 2013
The T-x phase diagram of Zn1-xBexSe alloy is calculated by means of ab initio method supplemented with the lattice Ising-like model cluster expansion approach and the Monte Carlo thermodynamic computations.

Thermodynamic analysis of the Ga-Pb binary system [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mining and Metallurgy. Section B: Metallurgy, 2003
Thermodynamic properties of binary Ga-Pb alloys were investigated experimentally and analytically. Quantitative differential thermal analysis was used for determination of integral mixing enthalpies for the gallium-reach alloys, at the constant ...
