Inulin‐Butyrate Nanogel for Modulation of Gut Microbiome, Intestinal Barrier, and Regulatory T‐Cells in Colitis

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
IBD is driven by a vicious cycle of dysbiosis, barrier dysfunction, and immune dysregulation. We developed an inulin–butyrate conjugate nanogel (IBN) that accumulates in inflamed colon and releases butyrate via microbial inulinase/esterase. The inulin shell remodels the microbiome, while localized butyrate strengthens barrier integrity and promotes ...

Sequencing of 231 forensic genetic markers using the MiSeq FGx™ forensic genomics system – an evaluation of the assay and software

open access: yesForensic Sciences Research, 2018
The MiSeq FGx™ Forensic Genomics System types 231 genetic markers in one multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay. The markers include core forensic short tandem repeats (STRs) as well as identity, ancestry and phenotype informative short ...

Distinct Nasal Microbiome Profiles and Prediction Model for Allergic Rhinitis, Nonallergic Rhinitis, and Healthy Children

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
The alpha and beta diversity of the nasal microbiome differed among children with allergic rhinitis (AR), nonallergic rhinitis (NAR), and healthy controls (HCs). Compared to HC, AR had more Escherichia‐Shigella, Negativicoccus, and Campylobacter, while NAR had more Dolosigranulum and fewer Enterobacteriaceae.

Comparative analyses of the results of HLA genes typing by NGS method using different platforms

open access: yesМедицинская иммунология
Next generation sequencing (NGS) allows high-resolution and allelic HLA-typing. The most common platform is MiSeq (Illumina, USA). Currently, the maintenance of this device is difficult, which has necessitated the search for analogues that are not ...

Comparison of Two Massively Parallel Sequencing Platforms using 83 Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms for Human Identification

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The potential of Massively Parallel Sequencing (MPS) technology to vastly expand the capabilities of human identification led to the emergence of different MPS platforms that use forensically relevant genetic markers.

Necromass chemistry drives the functional diversity of the necrobiome, resulting in microbe–organic matter feedbacks

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract In temperate European forests, soil fungal communities, dominated by saprotrophic and ectomycorrhizal (ECM) species, represent almost 25% of soil organic carbon (C) in the soil.

Is the endophyte‐based plant protection against aphids mediated by changes in the insect microbiome?

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
We showed that the fungal endophyte Epichloë strain AR37 increased the plant resistance against aphids via the production of indole diterpene alkaloids. The reduction in aphid performance was not associated with changes in abundance/composition/diversity of the insect's bacterial microbiota, but additional endophyte effects on this microbiota cannot be
