Sorting and the Output Loss due to Search Frictions [PDF]

open access: yes
We analyze a general search model with on-the-job search and sorting of heterogeneous workers into heterogeneous jobs. This model yields a simple relationship between (i) the unemployment rate, (ii) the value of non-market time, and (iii) the max-mean ...

Differential Evolution Based Mismatch Loss Optimisation in Photovoltaic Arrays

open access: yes7th Symposium on Applied Electromagnetics SAEM`18: Conference Proceedings, 2019
Advantages of renewable energy over carbon based sources are more than obvious. Solar power plants are the most appealing green energy sources because of the availability, scalability and simplicity of installation. Nevertheless, solar power plants should be designed carefully to gain most of harvested sun.

Integrative Approaches for DNA Sequence‐Controlled Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DNA is emerging as a programmable building block for functional materials with applications in biomimicry, biochemical, and mechanical information processing. The integration of simulations, experiments, and machine learning is explored as a means to bridge DNA sequences with macroscopic material properties, highlighting current advances and providing ...

Anomalous Stiffening of a Conjugated Polymer During Electrochemical Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The electromechanical response of a thienothiophene‐based conjugated polymer with triethylene glycol side chains is investigated. Electrochemical nanoindentation and atomic force microscopy reveal a modest and reversible increase in elastic modulus at room temperature upon electrochemical oxidation.

Power enhancement in PV arrays under partial shaded conditions with different array configuration

open access: yesHeliyon
Solar Photovoltaic systems are used for electrical power generation, and they provide an alternative source to non-renewable energy sources like coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear energy. Photovoltaic arrays used in PV systems may be subjected to partial

Gastric Medullary Carcinoma with Sporadic Mismatch Repair Deficiency and a TP53 R273C Mutation: An Unusual Case with Wild-Type BRAF

open access: yesCase Reports in Pathology, 2017
Medullary carcinoma has long been recognized as a subtype of colorectal cancer associated with microsatellite instability and Lynch syndrome. Gastric medullary carcinoma is a very rare neoplasm.

Colloidal Crack Sintering Lithography for Light‐Induced Patterning of Particle Assemblies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Colloidal crack sintering lithography (CCSL) is a microfabrication technique that uses light‐induced photothermal heating to trigger sintering and controlled cracking in polymer colloidal assemblies. Local structural changes generate microchannels and patterns, enabling direct writing of diverse topographic motifs.

Dental magnetic resonance imaging for bone loss assessment and disease activity classification in severe periodontitis

open access: yesInsights into Imaging
Objectives To evaluate the reliability and accuracy of dental MRI (dMRI) for volumetric infrabony and furcation bone loss compared to cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and to correlate to clinical signs of inflammation in patients with severe ...

Design strategies for energy-harvesting photovoltaics in diverse environments

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Indoor photovoltaics (IPVs) are small and not optimized for versatile environments, making them environmentally sensitive. To expand the application of energy-harvesting photovoltaics, overcoming the current problems and mismatch loss is ...

The Effect of Amino Acids on the Formation of Amorphous Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biomineral formation often proceeds via the assembly of amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) nanoparticles with narrow size distributions. Using in situ SAXS coupled to a stopped‐flow device, we follow synthetic ACC formation with a 10 ms time resolution and show that amino acids narrow the size distribution at low supersaturation, highlighting their key ...
