Titanium alloy surface modification with polyphenolic layer and zinc ions for sustained trimethoprim delivery: A coordination-mediated antibiotic immobilization approach

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Titanium-based implants are commonly applied in orthopedic and dental treatments, yet their durability is limited by issues such as bacterial adhesion and the mechanical mismatch between the implant and natural bone. In this work the surface modification

A mutant of uracil DNA glycosylase that distinguishes between cytosine and 5-methylcytosine

open access: yes, 2014
We demonstrate that a mutant of uracil DNA glycosylase (N123D:L191A) distinguishes between cytosine and methylcytosine. Uracil DNA glycosylase (UDG) efficiently removes uracil from DNA in a reaction in which the base is flipped into the enzyme’s active ...

Assessing the Sensitivity and the Clinical Impact of the 2023 American College of Rheumatology/EULAR Classification Criteria in Obstetric Antiphospholid Syndrome: Findings From a Multicenter Italian Cohort With a Long‐Term Follow‐Up

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity of the 2023 American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/EULAR classification criteria for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) in a real‐world cohort of women diagnosed with primary obstetric APS (oAPS) and to assess their ability to identify patients at risk of future pregnancy complications ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Enhancing performance of photovoltaic cell by spectral modification: a review

open access: yesDiscover Electronics
The spectral mismatch between solar cells and incident radiation fundamentally limits their efficiencies as photons outside the optimal absorption range of the cell are lost due to transmission or thermalization.

Form and Function Mismatch in the English Appositional Construction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The English apposition construction is a phenomenon where two equivalent expressions (anchor and appositive) are adjacent to each other. The construction, whose grammatical relation is different from typical complementation or modification, displays ...

Fine-tuning metal–organic framework performances by spatially-differentiated postsynthetic modification

open access: yes, 2018
In contrast to the regular postsynthetic modification (PSM) approach which is global and random in principle, a diffusion-controlled PSM strategy utilizing size mismatch between pores and reactants has been developed to target selective functionalization
