Automatic Identification of Three-body Scatter Signatures in Dual-polarization Radar

open access: yes应用气象学报
The three-body scatter signature (TBSS) is a critical indicator for the detection of large hail (diameter is greater than 20 mm) using S-band Doppler weather radar.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Identification of Grout Sleeve Joint Defect in Prefabricated Structures Using Deep Learning

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2020
A grout sleeve connection is a typical kind of joint in prefabricated structures. However, for construction and manufacturing reasons, defects in this kind of joint are usually inevitable.

Effect of the Water-Air Coupling on the Stability of Rainfall-Induced Landslides Using a Coupled Infiltration and Hydromechanical Model

open access: yesGeofluids, 2022
The water and air flow in soil pores in response to rainfall infiltration is an important factor affecting the stability of rainfall-induced landslides.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Uncertainty Quantification in Small-Timescale Model-Based Fatigue Crack Growth Analysis Using a Stochastic Collocation Method

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Due to the uncertainties originating from the underlying physical model, material properties and the measurement data in fatigue crack growth (FCG) processing, the prediction of fatigue crack growth lifetime is still challenging.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Distribution characteristics and seasonal variation of nutrients in Rushan inshore waters [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Based on the marine environmental investigation data conducted in Rushan inshore waters in February, May, August and October 2018, the distribution characteristics and seasonal variation of nutrients were analyzed, and the eutrophication status of ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
