Oxidative Stress and Mitochondria Are Involved in Anaphylaxis and Mast Cell Degranulation: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAntioxidants
Anaphylaxis, an allergic reaction caused by the massive release of active mediators, can lead to anaphylactic shock (AS), the most severe and potentially life-threatening form of anaphylactic reaction.

Counterintuitive Fluorescence Blue Shift in Symmetry Breaking Dicationic Bis(indolium) with Two‐Photon Absorption Properties for NIR Living Cell Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Highly water‐soluble dicationic bis(indolium) dyes have been prepared, showing excellent two‐photon absorption and light emission. Their fluorescence behavior discloses an unusual increasing blue shift with increasing solvent polarity, which, in parallel, is beneficial for enhanced detection in biological media.

Mitochondria and the heart

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal
Cardiac work demands a substantial amount of energy, stored in adenosine triphosphate (ATP), necessary for both contraction and relaxation. To meet these energy requirements, the heart is equipped with an efficient metabolic machinery. Mitochondria, the central organelle in maintaining cardiac function, primarily generate ATP through oxidative ...

Mitochondria and Apoptosis

open access: yesNeurosignals, 2001
Apoptosis is a coordinated sequence of events culminating in the death of the cell. Many of these biochemical processes are regulated by the mitochondria, including the release of proapoptotic molecules in addition to the caspase-activating cofactor, cytochrome c.

Aggregation of Mitochondria

open access: yesJournal of Nippon Medical School, 2005
Mitochondrial aggregation induced by co-expression of Green Fluorescent Protein(GFP)and an antiapoptotic factor Bcl-xL. HeLa cells were co-transfected with cDNA of Bcl-xL and empty control vector(A and B)or GFP(C, D and E). The cells were double-stained with antibody against Bcl-xL(A and C)and a mitochondria specific fluorescent dye, MitoTracker Red(B,

Mitochondria-Targeted Chimeric Peptide for Trinitarian Overcoming of Drug Resistance

open access: yes, 2016
In this report, an amphiphilic mitochondria-targeted chimeric peptide-based drug delivery system (DDS) was designed to overcome drug resistance. In vitro studies revealed that chimeric peptide could encapsulate doxorubicin (DOX) with high efficacy and ...

Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Changes of fatty acid metabolism and oxidative phosphorylation of rat liver mitochondria during 3'-Me-DAB feeding

open access: yes, 1964
Respiration, activity of oleate oxidation and composition of the total fatty acids of rat liver were investigated in 3'-Me-DAB feeding. 1. Oxidative phosphorylation of rat liver mitochondria decreased temporarily at relatively earlier stages (about 2 to ...
