Mitogenomic analysis of the genus Panthera [PDF]

open access: yesScience China Life Sciences, 2011
The complete sequences of the mitochondrial DNA genomes of Panthera tigris, Panthera pardus, and Panthera uncia were determined using the polymerase chain reaction method. The lengths of the complete mitochondrial DNA sequences of the three species were 16990, 16964, and 16773 bp, respectively.

Low-level point heteroplasmy detection in human mitogenomes amplified with different polymerases and sequenced on MiSeq FGx platform

open access: yes, 2023
Introduction: Massively parallel sequencing of mitogenomes usually requires prior amplification. The PCR step may influence the quality of the data obtained, especially when low-level heteroplasmy detection is applied.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Taxus cuspidata (Taxaceae): eight protein-coding genes have transferred to the nuclear genome

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2020
Background Gymnosperms represent five of the six lineages of seed plants. However, most sequenced plant mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) have been generated for angiosperms, whereas mitogenomic sequences have been generated for only six gymnosperms ...

Comparative Mitogenomics in Hyalella (Amphipoda: Crustacea) [PDF]

open access: yesGenes, 2021
We present the sequencing and comparative analysis of 17 mitochondrial genomes of Nearctic and Neotropical amphipods of the genus Hyalella, most from the Andean Altiplano. The mitogenomes obtained comprised the usual 37 gene-set of the metazoan mitochondrial genome showing a gene rearrangement (a reverse transposition and a reversal) between the North ...

Advancing Mitochondrial Metagenomics: A New Assembly Strategy and Validating the Power of Seed-Based Approach

open access: yesDiversity, 2022
Mitochondrial metagenomics (MMG) using Illumina sequencers for mixed-species samples provides a promising tool for evolutionary and ecological studies using mitogenomes.

Population analysis and evolution of Saccharomyces cerevisiae mitogenomes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The study of mitogenomes allows the unraveling of some paths of yeast evolution that are often not exposed when analyzing the nuclear genome. Although both nuclear and mitochondrial genomes are known to determine phenotypic diversity and fitness, no ...

Complete mitochondrial genomes of the African clawless (Aonyx capensis) and spotted necked (Hydrictis maculicollis) otter: structure, annotation, and interspecies variation

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2019
Otters are flagship species for pristine habitats and their southernmost distribution in Africa includes two species; Aonyx capensis and Hydrictis maculicollis. Here, we present novel full mitochondrial genomes of these otter species.

Ancient DNA From Museum Specimens and Next Generation Sequencing Help Resolve the Controversial Evolutionary History of the Critically Endangered Puebla Deer Mouse

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2020
Key insights into the evolutionary history of recently extinct or critically endangered species can be obtained through analysis of genomic data collected using high-throughput sequencing and ancient DNA from museum specimens, particularly where ...
