Reductive Activation of Mitomycin A by Thiols

Organic Letters, 2001
[reaction: see text]. Mitomycin C is unchanged upon exposure to thiols under physiological conditions. Its more toxic variant, mitomycin A (MA), undergoes elimination of methanol to give a variety of mitosene derivatives, diagnostic of its activation to a reactive electrophile. Evidence is presented for a novel reductive mechanism, characterized by the

Mitomycins and the bleaching of Euglena gracilis

Archiv für Mikrobiologie, 1969
The effects of some mitomycin antibiotics on the chloroplast system of Euglena gracilis were studied. Only those derivatives which contained an alkyl group on the aziridine nitrogen were effective bleaching agents. Thus, only N-methyl-mitomycin, porfiromycin, and mitomycin B caused a highly significant loss of chloroplasts.

Mitomycin C extravasation injuries

Cancer, 1983
Mitomycin C extravasation produces a chronic painful ulceration similar to that of adriamycin. Pain marks the extravasation of this chemotherapeutic agent when it occurs. A complaint of pain during mitomycin administration should prompt immediate cessation of infusion and regular frequent follow-up.

Biosynthesis of the Mitomycins

1981
The mitomycins and porfiromycin (Fig. 1) constitute a complex of anticancer antibiotics which are produced by Streptomyces caespitosus (Hata et al., 1956), Streptomyces ardus sp. n (DeBoer et al., 1960) Streptomyces verticillatus (Lefemine etal., 1962) and Streptomyces michiganensis (Wolf et al., 1975). Their structures have been determined by chemical,
