Free Fetal Haemoglobin in Severe Early‐Onset Fetal Growth Restriction: A Prospective Multi‐Centre Study

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, Volume 133, Issue 3, Page 401-411, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To assess fetal circulating free fetal haemoglobin (fHbF) levels and heme defences, correlated to fetal circulatory biometry and fetal sex in severe early‐onset fetal growth restriction (FGR). Design, Setting and Population A prospective study severe early‐onset fetal growth restriction pregnancies with close clinical management ...

Can enhanced street lighting improve public safety at scale?

open access: yesCriminology &Public Policy, Volume 25, Issue 1, Page 31-62, February 2026.
Abstract Research Summary Street crimes are thought to be influenced by changes in ambient lighting; yet, most studies have focused on small‐scale interventions in limited areas. It remains unclear whether enhanced lighting can improve safety on a larger, jurisdiction‐wide scale.

Preoperative extracorporeal mechanical circulatory support for patients with acute severe mitral valve regurgitation due to papillary muscle necrosis

open access: yesВестник трансплантологии и искусственных органов
Background. Acute mitral valve insufficiency has a high mortality rate (up to 100%). Mechanical circulatory support and emergency surgery can improve the survival of this patient cohort. Objectives: to analyze a 12-year single-center experience of ...

Assessing Cardiac Mechanical Dysfunction in Transfusion‐Dependent β‐Thalassemia With History of Atrial Fibrillation: The Role of Speckle Tracking Echocardiography

open access: yesEchocardiography, Volume 43, Issue 2, February 2026.
Transfusion dependent β‐thalassemia patients with history of atrial fibrillation (AF) had lower values of global longitudinal strain and peak atrial longitudinal strain (PALS) and showed higher prevalence of both left ventricular and atrial mechanical dysfunction. PALS was associated with high diagnostic accuracy for the detection of AF.

Idiopathic Submitral Left Ventricular Aneurysm: an Unusual Substrate for Ventricular Tachycardia in Caucasians [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Annular submitral aneurysms have been rarely reported in Caucasians. They are typically diagnosed in non-white adults who present with severe mitral regurgitation, heart failure, systemic embolism, ventricular arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death.

Submaximal 2‐day cardiopulmonary exercise testing to assess exercise capacity and post‐exertional symptom exacerbation in people with long COVID

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 2, Page 435-448, 1 February 2026.
Abstract Long COVID has a complex pathology and a heterogeneous symptom profile that impacts quality of life and functional status. Post‐exertional symptom exacerbation (PESE) affects one‐third of people living with long COVID, but the physiological basis of impaired physical function remains poorly understood. Sixty‐eight people (age (mean ± SD): 50 ±
