Abstract Four cases of marked mitral insufficiency without systolic murmur are presented. Absence of the systolic murmur was proved not only by auscultation, but also by phonocardiography. In all cases the diagnosis of mitral insufficiency was missed clinically and mitral stenosis was diagnosed.

Tricuspid insufficiency masquerading as mitral insufficiency in patients with severe mitral stenosis
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1967Abstract Eight patients with tight mitral stenosis and associated tricuspid insufficiency are presented. Initially, significant mitral insufficiency was suspected because of a loud apical systolic murmur, which after careful re-evaluation was proved to be of tricuspid origin transmitted to the apex.

Mitral valve repair for ischemic mitral insufficiency
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1991Over a 5-year period, 1,292 patients had operation on their native mitral valves. Ischemia was the cause of mitral insufficiency in 84 patients (6.5%). Sixty-five patients (77.4%) had mitral valve repair. Mean age was 66 +/- 10 years; 35 patients (53.8%) were women.
