Severe hemolytic anemia and acute renal failure after mitral valve repair associated with non-endothelialization of artificial chordae tendinae: case report

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2021
Background Mechanical hemolytic anemia and acute renal failure are rare complications of mitral valve repair. Case presentation We report a unique case of severe hemolytic anemia and severe acute renal failure after mitral valve repair using artificial ...

Durability of mitral valve reconstruction using the cosgrove edwards annuloplasty band at 5 years : From 23rd World Congress of the World Society of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons. Split, Croatia. 12-15 September 2013 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Oral presentation: 23rd World Congress of the World Society of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons. Split, Croatia. 12-15 September 2013. Background: In the past, questions have been raised, whether an open flexible annuloplasty band can reliably prevent recurrent

Mitral valve repair without mitral annuloplasty with extensive mitral annular calcification [PDF]

open access: yesInteractive CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery, 2014
In mitral valve repair, removal of mitral annular calcification (MAC) is necessary to secure the artificial ring but may cause rupture of the left ventricle or injury to the circumflex coronary artery. We experienced 3 cases of mitral valve regurgitation with extensive MAC. Patient 1, an 83-year old woman, had P1-P2 prolapse due to tendon rupture.

Papillary muscle approximation reduces systolic tethering forces and improves mitral valve closure in the repair of functional mitral regurgitationCentral MessagePerspective

open access: yesJTCVS Open, 2021
Background: Undersizing mitral annuloplasty (UMA) to repair functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) lacks durability, as it forces leaflet coaptation without relieving the subleaflet tethering forces.

Midterm results of mitral valve repair for atrial functional mitral regurgitation: a retrospective study

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2020
Background Annular dilation by left atrial remodeling is considered the main cause of atrial function mitral regurgitation. Although acceptable outcomes have been obtained using mitral ring annuloplasty alone for atrial functional mitral regurgitation ...

In Vivo Validation of Restored Chordal Biomechanics After Mitral Ring Annuloplasty in a Rare Ovine Case of Natural Chronic Functional Mitral Regurgitation

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease, 2020
Mitral valve chordae tendineae forces are elevated in the setting of mitral regurgitation (MR). Ring annuloplasty is an essential component of surgical repair for MR, but whether chordal forces are reduced after mitral annuloplasty has never been ...

Subannular repair for functional mitral regurgitation with reduced systolic ventricle function: rationale and design of REFORM-MR registry

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2022
Background Functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) is one of the most common heart valve diseases that is a sequel of left ventricular remodelling. Although mitral valve annuloplasty is a standard treatment of FMR, the recurrence of FMR is a major drawback

Modelling mitral valvular dynamics–current trend and future directions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Dysfunction of mitral valve causes morbidity and premature mortality and remains a leading medical problem worldwide. Computational modelling aims to understand the biomechanics of human mitral valve and could lead to the development of new treatment ...
