Mitral valve regurgitation

Current Problems in Cardiology, 1984
The mitral apparatus is a complex structure composed of several components, each of which can be affected by a variety of diseases, resulting in mitral regurgitation. The physiologic consequences of mitral regurgitation include reduced forward stroke volume; increased left atrial volume and pressure; and reduced resistance to left ventricular ejection.

Mitral Valve Repair for Mitral Regurgitation

Revista Española de Cardiología (English Edition), 2006
We analyzed the results of mitral valve repair in 81 consecutive patients with severe mitral regurgitation. Of these patients, 66.6% had myxomatous degeneration, 11% ischemic disease, 8% chordal rupture, 5% congenital disease, and 3.7% endocarditis. Repair could not be achieved in five patients, and valve replacement was necessary.

Mitral valve repair for degenerative mitral regurgitation

Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine, 2007
Mitral valve repair for degenerative mitral regurgitation is nowadays one of the most common valvular procedures. Different technical modifications were added to the original Carpentier's method, trying to maximise the stability of the results and to reduce the incidence of immediate complications and of late failure of the correction. Survival is good,

Mitral valve repair for traumatic mitral regurgitation

Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2015
Mitral valve injury after blunt chest trauma is a rare clinical condition. We describe a case of mitral valve repair for severe mitral regurgitation due to blunt chest trauma 5 years previously. A 22-year-old man was referred to our hospital for surgical correction of severe mitral regurgitation.
