Mitral valve repair in ischemic mitral regurgitation

Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2005
Ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) is a common complication after acute myocardial infarction due to annulus dilatation and papillary muscles displacement. In our opinion 3/4 and 4/4 IMR have always to be indicated for MV surgery. In presence of low EF and dilated LV, moderate (2/4) IMR has to be corrected.

Mitral valve regurgitation

2021
Abstract The prevalence of mitral regurgitation (MR) is increasing in Western countries, which results in making it the second most frequent valvular heart disease requiring surgery. MR can be classified as primary (organic) or secondary (functional).

Mitral Valve Repair for Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation

Angiology, 2008
Our aim was to evaluate midterm results in patients who underwent mitral valve repair (MVR) for ischermic mitral regurgitation (IMR) in our most recent experience. From March 2006 to March 2008, 105 patients underwent MVR for IMR. Mean IMR grade was 2.6 ± 1.1, with 46 patients having ≤2/4 and 59 ≥3/4.

Floppy mitral valve, mitral valve prolapse, and mitral valvular regurgitation

Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2001
It is well recognized that the floppy mitral valve (FMV) complex is the central issue in the FMV, mitral valve prolapse (MVP), and mitral valvular regurgitation (MVR) story. MVP associated with the FMV results from the systolic movement of portions or segments of the FMV complex into the left atrium (LA).

A tricuspid mitral valve with severe regurgitation

Echocardiography, 2022
AbstractTricuspid mitral valve is a rare entity, distinct from isolated clefts of the mitral leaflets. Echocardiographically, it manifests as the presence of three commissures, separate papillary muscles and concordant atrioventricular or ventriculoarterial connections.

Mitral valve regurgitation

2015
Abstract Mitral regurgitation is increasingly prevalent. Doppler echocardiography not only detects the presence of regurgitation but also permits to understand mechanisms of regurgitation, quantification of its severity, and repercussions.

Reoperation in mitral valve repair for regurgitant mitral valve disease

The Japanese Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2003
Reviewing reoperative mitral valve repair, we evaluated a predictor for future reoperation by comparing degenerative and rheumatic mitral regurgitation. From June 1988 to September 2002, 159 patients with mitral valve regurgitation underwent a variety of surgical reconstruction.

The Mitral Valve and Mitral Regurgitation

2016
An understanding of the normal anatomy, geometry and motion of the mitral valve is necessary to fully understand the pathophysiology of functional ischemic mitral regurgitation. The mitral valve apparatus is a dynamic structure with changes in its shape and geometry throughout the cardiac cycle. Six phases of the normal mitral valve motion and geometry

NONREPLACEMENT OPERATIONS FOR MITRAL VALVE REGURGITATION

Annual Review of Medicine, 1997
▪ Abstract  Mitral valve reconstruction offers patients an important alternative to the traditional method for treating severe mitral regurgitation—mitral valve replacement. Over the last 15 years, surgical techniques have evolved for treating mitral regurgitation occurring from various anatomic mechanisms—annular dilatation, abnormal leaflet motion ...

Mitral valve repair in the treatment of mitral regurgitation

Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2009
Because there is no proven effective medical therapy for mitral regurgitation (MR), mitral valve repair (MVRpr) is the treatment of choice for patients with severe primary nonrheumatic MR. A successfully performed and properly timed MVRpr may lead to a normal lifestyle and life span. The alternative to repair is mitral valve replacement. Although there
