Cardiac conduction system and the electrocardiogram of the common hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius)

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The common hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius) shares a common terrestrial ancestor with whales (Cetacea) and has independently evolved similar physiological adaptations to their aquatic lifestyle. Although several studies have explored the electrical signalling in whale hearts, the understanding of the conduction system and electrical ...

Heart dysfunction in a rat model with autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Our results demonstrate a diastolic dysfunction in animals with severe kidney disease. Moreover, chronic kidney disease (CKD)‐induced heart fibrosis and hypertrophy are associated with a dysregulation of cardiokine signalling in autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) animals. Created using BioRender.com.

Enhancing stroke risk stratification in atrial fibrillation through non‐Newtonian blood modelling and Gaussian process emulation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Non‐Newtonian modelling and GPEs for stroke risk in atrial fibrilation patients. Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common heart arrhythmia, linked to a five‐fold increase in stroke risk. The left atrial appendage (LAA), prone to blood stasis, is a common thrombus formation site in AF patients.

Rapid Enoxaparin Adjustment for Childhood Thrombosis/Thromboprophylaxis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, Volume 72, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Enoxaparin dosing in children is imperfect and strategies to optimize initial therapy for patients at high‐thrombotic risk would be of clinical benefit. This study looked at using peak‐post‐first‐enoxaparin‐dose anti‐Xa to guide subsequent enoxaparin dose and timing of administration in children deemed high‐thrombotic risk.
