MITRAL VALVE STENOSIS IN THE ELDERLY

Age and Ageing, 1985
Forty-seven elderly patients (aged 70-95 years) with mitral stenosis (MS) were studied. The initial presentation in 77% of patients was in the postretirement age and 55% were diagnosed after the age of 70 years. A history of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) was given by 43% of all patients.

Ultrasoundcardiography in mitral valve stenosis∗

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1967
Abstract In our experience the ultrasoundcardiogram from the anterior mitral leaflet may be used for: 1. 1. Estimating the degree of mitral stenosis and thus deciding whether commissurotomy is indicated or not. 2. 2. Estimating the degree of rigidity in the mitral valve and in this manner selecting cases for open heart surgery. 3.

Supernumerary Mitral Valve Producing Subaortic Stenosis

Chest, 1981
A ten-year-old girl with severe subaortic stenosis was found to have relatively mature valvular endocardial cushion tissue (fibromyxomatous sheets with a chorda tendinea attached to a left ventricular papillary muscle) immediately beneath the aortic valve.

Development of Mitral Stenosis After Mitral Valve Repair: Importance of Mitral Valve Area

Canadian Journal of Cardiology, 2017
The development of mitral stenosis (MS) is not uncommon after mitral valve (MV) repair for degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR), but the significance of MS in this setting has not been defined. We prospectively studied 110 such patients who underwent supine bicycle exercise testing to assess intracardiac hemodynamics at rest and at peak exercise.

Heart valve disease (mitral valve disease): mitral stenosis

2016
Abstract The most common cause of mitral stenosis (MS) is rheumatic fever followed by degenerative MS. Echocardiography is the key method to diagnose and evaluate MS. Echocardiographic findings are closely related to aetiology. In rheumatic disease echocardiography shows thickening of leaflet tips with restricted opening caused by ...

Native Mitral Stenosis Treated With Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2016
Surgical treatment of mitral stenosis with extreme calcification remains a challenge. Recently, the balloon-expandable valve prosthesis, anchored by radial force, offers a new option for these patients. We present 2 cases of transcatheter mitral valve replacement in patients with severe native mitral valve stenosis and annular calcification deemed too ...

Transcatheter Therapy for Mitral Valve Stenosis

Interventional Cardiology Clinics
Mitral valve stenosis remains highly prevalent among the US population although with dramatically shifting demographics. The significance of rheumatic mitral disease in developing nations persists, despite improvements in preventative measures and early detection, and its presence in developed countries is still evident as observed through ...
