First Report of a Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis) Feeding Alongside Indo‐Pacific Humpback Dolphins (Sousa chinensis) in the Beibuwan Gulf, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Research on mixed‐species groups of cetaceans has increased worldwide in recent decades; however, their drivers are not well understood. Although the common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) and Indo‐Pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis) do not form a ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Cluster Analysis of Ranunculus Species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The aim of the experiment was to examine whether the morphological characters of eleven species of Ranunculus collected from a number of populations were in agreement with the genetic data (isozyme).

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

The importance of aquatic plants in maintaining zooplankton diversity and abundance: An experimental approach

open access: yesRegulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems, 2020
The influence of different species and ecological forms of higher aquatic plants on the abundance, biomass and species diversity of zooplankton was investigated in experimental ecosystems (microcosms).

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Wild mixed groups of howler species (Alouatta caraya and Alouatta clamitans) and new evidence for their hybridization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Mixed species groups and hybridization are common among primates, yet these phenomena are rare and poorly understood for the genus Alouatta. In this study, we describe the composition of howler groups in a sympatric area of Alouatta caraya and Alouatta ...

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Species-Specific Traits Rather Than Resource Partitioning Mediate Diversity Effects on Resource Use [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: The link between biodiversity and ecosystem processes has firmly been established, but the mechanisms underpinning this relationship are poorly documented.
