Novel exact solutions for PDEs with mixed boundary conditions

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems
We develop methods for the solution of inhomogeneous Robin-type boundary value problems (BVPs) that arise for certain linear parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs) on a half-line, as well as a second-order generalization.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

The Kato Square Root Problem for mixed boundary conditions

open access: yesJournal of Functional Analysis, 2014
We consider the negative Laplacian subject to mixed boundary conditions on a bounded domain. We prove under very general geometric assumptions that slightly above the critical exponent $\frac{1}{2}$ its fractional power domains still coincide with suitable Sobolev spaces of optimal regularity.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Optimization of the principal eigenvalue under mixed boundary conditions

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2014
We investigate minimization and maximization of the principal eigenvalue of the Laplacian under mixed boundary conditions in case the weight has indefinite sign and varies in a class of rearrangements.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

A new application of Schrödinger-type identity to singular boundary value problem for the Schrödinger equation

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2019
In this paper, we present a modified Schrödinger-type identity related to the Schrödinger-type boundary value problem with mixed boundary conditions and spatial heterogeneities.
