Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Isospectrality and heat content

open access: yes, 2014
We present examples of isospectral operators that do not have the same heat content. Several of these examples are planar polygons that are isospectral for the Laplace operator with Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

ASYMPTOTIC SOLUTIONS OF MIXED PROBLEMS FOR ELASTIC STRIP AND WEDGE

open access: yesВестник Донского государственного технического университета, 2018
Asymptotic solutions are derived for two new theory elasticity problems with mixed boundary conditions. The first problem is about a shear crack in a strip for different types of boundary conditions on the outer faces of the strip.

Novel exact solutions for PDEs with mixed boundary conditions

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems
We develop methods for the solution of inhomogeneous Robin-type boundary value problems (BVPs) that arise for certain linear parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs) on a half-line, as well as a second-order generalization.

Residual-Based A Posteriori Error Estimates for Symmetric Conforming Mixed Finite Elements for Linear Elasticity Problems

open access: yes, 2017
A posteriori error estimators for the symmetric mixed finite element methods for linear elasticity problems of Dirichlet and mixed boundary conditions are proposed. Stability and efficiency of the estimators are proved.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

ASYMPTOTIC SOLUTIONS OF MIXED PROBLEMS FOR ELASTIC STRIP AND WEDGE

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.
