Acta reumatologica portuguesa, 2012
The authors describe two clinical cases of cryoglobulinemia. A 70 years old woman, having skin ulcers on lower limbs, arthralgias, paresthesias and constitutional symptoms, for about 10 months. Exams revealed mild anemia, elevation of the biological parameters of inflammation and aminotransferases, positive cryoglobulin and rheumatoid factor in serum ...

B-cells and mixed cryoglobulinemia
Autoimmunity Reviews, 2007Mixed cryoglobulinemia (MC) is a systemic small-vessel vasculitis; B-cell expansion is the biological substrate of the disease. It can be regarded as benign lymphoproliferative condition that may evolve to frank lymphoma. HCV infection is the main causative factor of MC, as well as of other overlapping disorders, through multifactorial and multistep ...

Non HCV-related mixed cryoglobulinemia
Digestive and Liver Disease, 2007A striking association (>90%) between mixed cryoglobulinemia (MC) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has been established by means of clinico-epidemiological and laboratory studies. However, little information is available as regards the etiopathogenesis and the actual percentage of HCV-negative MC.

Autonomic neuropathy in mixed cryoglobulinemia
Journal of Neurology, 2007A retrospective, cross-sectional study was performed on a series of HCV-related mixed cryoglobulinemia (HCV-MC) patients to assess autonomic neuropathy (AN) and its relation to peripheral neuropathy (PN). Thirty consecutive patients affected by HCV-MC underwent clinical, neurological and electrodiagnostic examinations.

Mixed cryoglobulinemia are divided in two types: type II is the association of polyclonal IgG and a monoclonal IgM and type III is the association of polyclonal IgG and polyclonal IgM. In 70 p. 100 of cryoglobulinemia, a cause may be found (hematologic, auto immune disorder, infections, hepatic disorders), in some cases the recognition of the cause is ...

Therapeutic approaches in mixed cryoglobulinemia
Springer Seminars in Immunopathology, 1988In summary, one can say that, although EMCG is a perplexing and puzzling disease, and although there are more enigmas than solutions, we can establish a way of handling the disease, knowing how to divide it into benign or acute forms, and establishing a treatment attitude according to that knowledge.

Hla antigens in essential mixed cryoglobulinemia
Arthritis & Rheumatism, 1981AbstractHLA antigens were studied in 36 patients with essential mixed cryoglobulinemia. The antigens that showed the largest percentage of deviations from the control group were DRw3 (40% versus 20%), DRw8 (32% versus 11.5%), and Cw6 (5.6% versus 20.7%).

Peripheral Neuropathy in Essential Mixed Cryoglobulinemia
Archives of Neurology, 1988Sixteen patients with essential mixed cryoglobulinemia were studied and followed up clinically and electrophysiologically for 4.2 years. Peripheral neuropathy was diagnosed in seven cases. Five of these patients had distal symmetrical sensorimotor polyneuropathy. Nerve conduction velocities were normal and therefore indicative of pure axonal neuropathy.

Gastrointestinal manifestations of essential mixed cryoglobulinemia
Gastrointestinal Radiology, 1988A patient with essential mixed cryoglobulinemia (EMC) presented initially with gastric ulcers and, six months later, with a lesion of the ileum, mild stricture of the transverse colon, and stricture of the sigmoid colon with deep ulceration. The initial diagnosis was Crohn's disease, but pathologic examination of the resected sigmoid lesion showed ...
