Mixed crystal deposition in an osteoarthritic joint

The Journal of Pathology, 1977
The case of a 72-yr-old woman with osteoarthritis of the shoulder, is described. A mixture of crystals of hydroxyapatite and calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate was identified in the joint tissues using analytical electron microscopy and infra-red spectroscopy.

Optical dephasing in semiconductor mixed crystals

Physical Review B, 1992
The influence of disorder and localization on optical dephasing of excitons in the semiconductor mixed crystals ${\mathrm{CdS}}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathit{x}}$${\mathrm{Se}}_{\mathit{x}}$ and ${\mathrm{Al}}_{\mathit{x}}$${\mathrm{Ga}}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathit{x}}$As has been investigated by means of time-resolved four-wave mixing and ...

To Mix or Not To Mix: 2D Crystallization and Mixing Behavior of Saturated and Unsaturated Aliphatic Primary Amides

ACS Nano, 2011
Physisorbed monolayers based on relatively weak noncovalent interactions can serve as excellent model systems for understanding crystallization of materials in reduced dimensionality. Here we employ a powerful combination of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and computational modeling to reveal two ...

Polymerization in mixed crystals

Journal of Materials Science, 1980
Suitably substituted diacetylenes can be co-crystallized to form substitutional solid solutions. By solid state polymerization of these mixed crystals macroscopic single crystals of statistical copolymers can be obtained. The co-crystallization is described and the influence of crystal composition on structure and reactivity in the solid state is ...

The Electronic states of mixed molecular crystals. II. Application of the mixed crystals of naphthalene and deuteronaphthalenes

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1966
Abstract Calculations have been made of the exciton band structure of the naphthalene crystal in a periodic volume of 10 x 10 x 10 unit cells. Levels belonging to special values of wave vector are reported for the crystal structure at room temperature and at 95 °K.

Elementary Excitations of Isotope: Mixed Crystals

Physics Reports, 2005
This book develops and describes the isotope effect in the low-dimensional structures (down to 3–10 A). Without assuming prior knowledge of quantum physics, present book provides a unifying framework for the basic ideas needed to understand the recent developments in the nanoscience.
