Flavor physics within and beyond the Standard Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
I review recent progress in theoretical calculations related to the CKM unitarity triangle. After briefly discussing hints for new physics in B_d-B_d-bar mixing and B_s-B_s-bar mixing I present three topics of MSSM flavor physics: First I discuss new tan-

Feasibility and Safety of High‐Dose Proton Re‐Irradiation in Recurrent Pediatric Central Nervous System Tumors: A Single‐Institution Retrospective Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors often recur despite multimodality therapy. Although re‐irradiation (re‐RT) has historically been limited by concerns for severe late toxicities, modern techniques have renewed interest in this approach. Proton therapy provides dosimetric advantages that may enable curative re‐treatment with

The physics of mixing: in the chiral quark model [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 1997
We compute the BK parameter and the mass difference ΔMLS of the K0−K0 system by means of the chiral quark model. The chiral coefficients of the relevant ΔS = 2 and ΔS = 1 chiral Lagrangians are computed via quark-loop integration. We include the relevant effects of one-loop corrections in chiral perturbation theory.

Physics Potential of Long-Baseline Experiments

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, 2014
The discovery of neutrino mixing and oscillations over the past decade provides firm evidence for new physics beyond the Standard Model. Recently, θ13 has been determined to be moderately large, quite close to its previous upper bound.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Anti-counterfeiting: Mixing the Physical and the Digital World [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, we overview a set of desiderata for building digital anti-counterfeiting technologies that rely upon the difficulty of manufacturing randomized complex 3D objects. Then, we observe how this set is addressed by RF-DNA, an anti-counterfeiting technology recently proposed by DeJean and Kirovski.

Error estimation for localized signal properties: application to atmospheric mixing height retrievals [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2015
The mixing height is a key parameter for many applications that relate surface–atmosphere exchange fluxes to atmospheric mixing ratios, e.g., in atmospheric transport modeling of pollutants.

Experimental Status of $B$ Physics

open access: yes, 2006
A short summary is given of the current status of B physics. Reasons for physics beyond the Standard Model are discussed. Constraints on New Physics are given using measurements of B mixing, Bs mixing, and CP violation, along with |Vub. Future goals, and

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

BSM Kaon Mixing at the Physical Point [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
We present a progress update on the RBC-UKQCD calculation of beyond the standard model (BSM) kaon mixing matrix elements at the physical point. Simulations are performed using 2+1 flavour domain wall lattice QCD with the Iwasaki gauge action at 3 lattice spacings and with pion masses ranging from 430 MeV to the physical pion mass.
