Modular S4 models of lepton masses and mixing [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
We investigate models of charged lepton and neutrino masses and lepton mixing based on broken modular symmetry. The matter fields in these models are assumed to transform in irreducible representations of the finite modular group Γ4 ≃ S4.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Measurement of Mixing and CP Violation in the Two-Body D0 decays to KK, pipi and Kpi with the BaBar Experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present a measurement of D0-D0bar mixing and CP violation using the ratio of lifetimes simultaneously extracted from a sample of D0 mesons produced through the flavor-tagged process D*+ -> D0 pi+, where D0 decays to D0->Kpi, KK, or pipi, along with ...

The Design and Investigation of Hybrid a Microfluidic Micromixer

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Today, microfluidics has become a revolutionary interdisciplinary topic with considerable attention in a wide range of biotechnology applications. In this research work, a numerical investigation of a microfluidic micromixer is carried out using a hybrid

Neutrino-electron scattering: general constraints on Z ′ and dark photon models

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
We study the framework of U(1) X models with kinetic mixing and/or mass mixing terms. We give general and exact analytic formulas of fermion gauge interactions and the cross sections of neutrino-electron scattering in such models.

Physical Playlist: Bringing Back the Mix-Tape [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
To those of a certain age the concept of the mix-tape holds fond memories, and generally not of the musical content they contained, but rather the emotional and physical connection they represented with either its creator or recipient. They provided an embodiment of the time and effort it its creation and thus presented the same qualities of other ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

REVIEW OF PARTICLE PHYSICS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This biennial Review summarizes much of particle physics. Using data from previous editions, plus 2158 new measurements from 551 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons.

Anti-counterfeiting: Mixing the Physical and the Digital World [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, we overview a set of desiderata for building digital anti-counterfeiting technologies that rely upon the difficulty of manufacturing randomized complex 3D objects. Then, we observe how this set is addressed by RF-DNA, an anti-counterfeiting technology recently proposed by DeJean and Kirovski.

The physics of mixing: in the chiral quark model [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 1997
We compute the BK parameter and the mass difference ΔMLS of the K0−K0 system by means of the chiral quark model. The chiral coefficients of the relevant ΔS = 2 and ΔS = 1 chiral Lagrangians are computed via quark-loop integration. We include the relevant effects of one-loop corrections in chiral perturbation theory.
